What causes facial neuralgia?

Facial neuralgia, also known as facial trigeminal neuralgia, is a disease with a relatively high incidence in daily life. It is easily confused with toothache. If the best time for treatment is missed, it will cause great harm to your health. In fact, there are four causes of facial neuralgia, and everyone must pay attention to prevention.

1. The main cause of facial trigeminal neuralgia is the viral infection theory: It has long been concluded that the cerebral cortex is the highest center of sensation throughout the body. Pain caused by lesions in any part of the trigeminal nervous system is reflected through the cerebral cortex. Virus infections such as herpes and herpes simplex can invade the cerebral cortex corresponding to the trigeminal nerve along the pathway of the trigeminal nervous system, causing trigeminal neuralgia.

2. Peripheral pathogen theory: A theory that lesions anywhere from the trigeminal nerve endings to the brainstem nuclei can stimulate the trigeminal nerve, causing physiological dysfunction and organic changes in the central nervous system, resulting in paroxysmal severe pain within the distribution area of the trigeminal nerve.

3. The main cause of facial trigeminal neuralgia is the family genetic theory: It has been reported clinically that 6 out of 7 siblings in a family suffered from trigeminal neuralgia, and 2 of them suffered from bilateral pain. In another family, the mother and three of her six children suffered from trigeminal neuralgia, two of whom had bilateral pain. Therefore, it is believed that trigeminal neuralgia may be related to family inheritance. However, most scholars believe that this disease has little to do with genetic factors and has nothing to do with human race.

4. The main cause of facial trigeminal neuralgia is the central etiology theory: the brain nuclei in the central part of the trigeminal nervous system, the trigeminal spinal nucleus, the thalamus and the cerebral cortex can all cause trigeminal neuralgia due to stimulation from surrounding lesions and harmful stimulation from the center itself.
