What should I do if I vomit or feel dizzy during pregnancy?

As we all know, any reaction a woman has during pregnancy is closely related to the fetus. If it is not handled in time or improperly, it will cause great harm to both the pregnant woman and the fetus. So what should a pregnant woman do when she experiences symptoms of vomiting and dizziness?

1. Early pregnancy reaction

When a woman becomes pregnant, due to the formation of the embryo's villi, it will secrete chorionic gonadotropin, which will cause the expectant mother to have various uncomfortable reactions, such as the common nausea, vomiting, breast swelling, drowsiness, depression, etc. Some pregnant women will also experience symptoms such as dizziness and drowsiness. These are collectively called early pregnancy reactions. Due to individual differences, each person's symptoms vary, and the severity varies.

How to deal with it: The dizziness as an early pregnancy reaction can be relieved by resting, listening to music, diverting attention, etc. It will generally disappear after three months of pregnancy.

2. Low blood pressure causes insufficient blood supply to the brain

Low blood pressure can easily cause temporary insufficient blood supply to the brain, and pregnant women may experience dizziness when standing up suddenly or taking the elevator. Because of the drop in blood pressure, the blood flow to the brain will decrease, resulting in insufficient blood supply to the brain, causing ischemia and hypoxia of the brain, thus causing dizziness.

How to deal with it: If the expectant mother has low blood pressure, no special treatment is generally required if the condition is mild. It is recommended that expectant mothers with low blood pressure should not squat or stand up too hard, and it is best to hold the handrail when taking the elevator to prevent falling.

3. Hypoglycemia

Some expectant mothers have a poor appetite during pregnancy, or cannot eat due to early pregnancy reactions, which may cause dizziness due to low blood sugar. Some may also have symptoms such as palpitations, fatigue, and cold sweats.

How to deal with it: Expectant mothers must pay attention to having a balanced diet. They don’t have to eat too much at each meal, but the nutrition must be balanced to meet the needs of fetal development. Another thing you must pay attention to is to eat small meals frequently. Children get nutrition from their mothers every minute and every second. The mother can have three regular meals and add some snacks between each meal, such as: milk, tofu pudding, eggs, nuts, etc. If you are busy with work or have no time to eat for other reasons, be sure to bring some chocolate or other temporary supplements.

4. Anemia

Anemia is also one of the main causes of dizziness in pregnant women.

Countermeasures: Expectant mothers should pay special attention to supplementing protein foods, such as fish, meat, eggs, milk, beans, etc. It should also be emphasized that pregnant women should pay attention to supplementing iron, which is the raw material for hematopoiesis. Folic acid supplementation is the raw material for building blood cell walls, and vitamin supplementation is to promote iron absorption. Therefore, pregnant women should pay attention to balanced nutrition, and eat whole grains, dates, peanuts, red beans, donkey-hide gelatin, astragalus, etc., and eating nuts is good for correcting anemia. It is important to go to the hospital regularly for perinatal care, detect anemia in time, and correct it in time to avoid dizziness caused by anemia.

5. Wrong body position, compressing blood vessels

This type of situation usually occurs when the expectant mother experiences dizziness while lying on her back or sitting on the sofa watching TV. This is because the uterus enlarges in the late pregnancy, compressing the inferior vena cava, resulting in insufficient blood supply to the heart and brain, thus causing dizziness.

How to deal with it: Such expectant mothers should try to avoid lying on their back or semi-reclining sitting position to prevent dizziness. If there are signs of dizziness, they should immediately change to lying on the left side.
