How to treat hernia in children?

Infantile hernia is a physiological variation that affects the appearance of the genitals. This is because the scrotal part of the genitals is not completely separated from the abdominal cavity during fetal development, leaving a slight gap that allows the inside of the scrotum and the abdominal cavity to communicate with each other, causing part of the rectum to fall off and flow into the scrotum. This condition is a symptom that exists since birth and is a symptom of incomplete development. Although this phenomenon does not affect people's fertility, it will change the genetic pattern and allow the hernia to be inherited, causing damage to the health of future generations. Let's take a look at how to treat pediatric hernia.

A small hernia is caused by poor development of the abdominal wall muscle fascia, which cannot effectively cover and hide the internal organs in the abdominal cavity. It is caused by increased abdominal pressure (when you are angry or crying) or when the internal organs protrude through the abdominal wall when you stand, forming a bulge.

symptom:

The main symptom of hernia is that you can see or feel a lump in the groin area. Infants are mostly discovered by their mothers when changing their diapers, while older children are more often discovered during bathing or at health clinics. The cause of the lump is the increase in abdominal pressure. The most common reason is crying, and others include coughing, defecation, urination, etc. Older children can be asked to stand up and apply force to the abdomen to induce the appearance of a lump. The lump may be found only in the groin area, while some may reach the scrotum or labia. It appears and disappears when the child is quiet or sleeping. The mass is formed by the prolapse of organs in the abdominal cavity into the hernia bag. Most of the prolapsed organs are small intestines, so they feel soft to the touch and are often accompanied by gurgling noises when they go back. Other organs such as the large intestine, appendix, and greater omentum may also prolapse. In women, ovarian prolapse is more common, so a thumb-sized, hard, and often tender lump can often be felt.

treat:

If hernia occurs in infants under 6 months old, some children may recover on their own, but if it does not heal after 1 year old or occurs after 1 year old, surgical treatment is generally required. The medical attitude towards the treatment of oblique cancer in children is that those over one year old should undergo surgery as soon as possible. Because pediatric hernia surgery is simple, quick and effective. The surgery causes less trauma and less postoperative pain, so non-surgical treatment is not recommended. The surgical method for hernia in children is different from that for adults. The treatment goal can be achieved by simply ligating the hernia sac high. During the operation, the skin incision is only 1.5 to 2.0 cm. There is no need to cut the inguinal canal. The hernia sac only needs to be pulled out and ligated at a high position. The operation usually takes about 20 minutes to complete, and the hospital stay is only 2 to 3 days. The wound does not need to be closed with stitches. Many doctors still use the adult method of cutting the ventral canal to treat pediatric hernia, which is not very scientific. Because the inguinal canal is damaged, the surgical trauma is increased and the postoperative recovery time is prolonged.
