What does string pulse mean?

Xian pulse is the name of the pulse pattern. "Su Wen. Yu Ji Zhen Zang Lun" says: "It is straight and long, so it is called string pulse." The main diseases are mostly liver and gallbladder diseases, pain, phlegm and fluid, or those with weak stomach qi, and are also seen in healthy elderly people.

In mild cases, it is like pressing a guitar string; in severe cases, it is like pressing a bowstring, or even like following a knife edge.

The liver governs discharge and regulates the Qi of the body, so gentleness is valued. If evil Qi stagnates in the liver, discharge is abnormal, and Qi is stagnant, a stringy pulse will be seen.

All kinds of pains, phlegm and fluid, emotional frustration and pain can cause the liver to fail to release its qi, qi stagnation, and disharmony between yin and yang, making the pulse tense. Therefore, the pulse is hard and stringy. And depending on the nature of the evil spirit, the string may be tight, the number of strings may be large, or the string may be loose.

When malaria is the disease, it hides in the half-exterior and half-interior, and the Shaoyang pivot is not functioning well, resulting in a stringy pulse.

Deficiency and internal injuries, insufficient vital energy, liver wood dominating spleen earth, may also cause stringy pulse. In cases of liver and kidney disease, yin deficiency and yang hyperactivity, stringy pulse may also be seen, but it should be slow or thin. If the pulse is thin and strong, like following the edge of a knife, it means that there is no stomach qi at all and the disease is difficult to cure.
