The child suddenly convulsed and became unconscious with a purple face. What happened?

There are many reasons why children suddenly convulse, become comatose, and turn purple. For example, the child suffers from hypoxia, a foreign object is stuck in the trachea, causing breathing difficulties. In addition, if the child vomits and causes foreign objects to be inhaled, this phenomenon may also occur. Another thing to be vigilant about is the cause of epilepsy. We know that epilepsy is a brain lesion, and sometimes epileptic seizures may cause such symptoms.

What to do during an epileptic seizure

1. Some people often pinch the Ren Zhong point when they see an epileptic patient convulsing, hoping to end the patient's seizure. The patient's convulsion is caused by excessive discharge of the brain. Once an attack occurs, it cannot be controlled, and the convulsion can only stop after the discharge ends. Therefore, when a patient has a convulsion, do not pinch the Ren Zhong point. This is of no benefit to the patient. Pay attention to correct care during an epileptic seizure and never pinch the Ren Zhong point.

2. When the patient shows signs of an attack, place a gauze-wrapped compression plate between the patient's upper and lower molars before the attack to prevent the patient from biting the tongue. If the device cannot be inserted before the onset of an attack, wait until the patient opens his mouth during the tonic phase and then insert it. Do not force it into the patient during the clonic phase to avoid hurting the patient. This is the correct care method for epileptic attacks.

3. During an epileptic seizure, the patient should lie flat, loosen the collar, and turn the head to one side to facilitate the discharge of respiratory secretions and vomitus and prevent them from flowing into the trachea and causing choking and suffocation. During a major seizure, there will be more respiratory secretions, which can easily cause respiratory obstruction or aspiration pneumonia. Do not put anything in the mouth during convulsions, do not force medicine, prevent suffocation, and provide timely treatment for epilepsy patients.

4. When someone forcibly presses the patient's limbs during the clonic phase of the patient's seizure, do not try to stop the convulsions and reduce the patient's pain. However, excessive force can cause fractures and muscle strains, which will increase the patient's pain. After paying attention to the above issues, be sure to contact the hospital in time for appropriate first aid to avoid symptoms that endanger the patient's life, such as cerebral edema, brain herniation, respiratory and circulatory failure.

General care for epilepsy

1. Patients with epilepsy often indicate that there may be some special lesions in their brains. Therefore, in daily life, we should try to create a quiet environment for them to avoid any adverse stimulation: such as pain, tension, high fever, trauma, excessive fatigue, strong emotional fluctuations (impatience, anger), etc. In addition, drinking, eating irritating and greasy foods, some antibiotics, psychiatric drugs, etc. can also induce epileptic seizures, so we should try to avoid them.

2. Carefully observe and understand the causes of epileptic seizures, and promptly detect signs before an attack. The pre-attack warning signs may include two parts: prodromal symptoms and premonitory symptoms. Prodromal symptoms refer to general discomfort, irritability, restlessness, depression, etc. that patients may experience a few days or hours before epilepsy care; aura symptoms refer to illusions, hallucinations, local muscle spasms or other special sensations that patients experience within a few seconds before another seizure. Therefore, when patients have prodromal symptoms, it indicates that they may have an epileptic seizure within hours or days. It is necessary to provide good psychological care for the patients, help them stabilize their emotions, contact their doctors, adjust the dosage under the guidance of the doctor, and prevent epileptic seizures.
