Symptoms and dangers of high blood lipids

High blood lipids can easily lead to hyperlipidemia, which is quite harmful to health. There are many causes, such as environment, diet, exercise, and genetics. Some diseases can also easily lead to such symptoms, such as diabetes, obesity, hypothyroidism, etc. When patients have high blood lipids, they often feel sleepy, have unclear minds, are prone to calf cramps, have obvious memory loss, and sometimes see things blurry, etc.

What are the symptoms of high blood lipids?

1. You often feel dizzy or fall asleep easily while talking to others. I feel groggy after getting up in the morning, which improves after breakfast. I feel very sleepy in the afternoon, but very awake at night.

2. Xanthelasma eyelid is a sign of increased blood lipids in middle-aged and elderly women. It is mainly manifested by the appearance of small yellowish rashes on the eyelids. At first, they are the size of rice grains and slightly higher than the skin. In severe cases, they cover the entire eyelid.

3. Frequent cramps and tingling in the calves are signs of cholesterol accumulation in the leg muscles.

4. More dark spots appear on the face and hands within a short period of time (the spots are slightly larger than age spots and darker in color). Memory and reaction ability are significantly reduced.

5. When things seem blurry from time to time, this is caused by the blood becoming thicker and its blood flow slowing down, resulting in temporary ischemia and hypoxia of the optic nerve or retina.

It should be noted that the absence of symptoms does not mean that blood lipids are not high. Since the onset of hyperlipidemia is a chronic process, mild hyperlipidemia usually does not cause any discomfort, while more severe cases will cause symptoms such as dizziness, headache, chest tightness, shortness of breath, palpitations, chest pain, fatigue, crooked mouth, inability to speak, and limb numbness, which will eventually lead to serious diseases such as coronary heart disease and cerebral stroke, and the corresponding symptoms will appear.

What are the dangers of high blood lipids?

People often ask what the dangers of high blood lipids are. First of all, we must realize that blood lipids are an important substance in the human body and have many very important functions, but they cannot exceed a certain range.

If there is too much blood lipid, it will easily cause "thick blood" and deposit on the blood vessel walls, gradually forming small plaques (which we often call "atherosclerosis"). These "plaques" increase and grow larger, gradually blocking the blood vessels, slowing down blood flow, and in severe cases, interrupting blood flow. If this situation occurs in the heart, it will cause coronary heart disease; if it occurs in the brain, it will cause cerebral stroke; if it blocks the blood vessels in the retina, it will lead to decreased vision and blindness; if it occurs in the kidneys, it will cause renal artery sclerosis and renal failure; if it occurs in the lower limbs, it will cause limb necrosis and ulceration. In addition, high blood lipids can cause high blood pressure, induce gallstones, pancreatitis, aggravate hepatitis, lead to male sexual dysfunction, Alzheimer's disease and other diseases. The latest research suggests that high blood lipids may be related to the incidence of cancer.
