What causes heartburn?

What causes heartburn?

In the north, every household will steam tofu one month before the New Year. Tofu is made of glutinous rice and beans. It is a sticky food. Many people like to eat bean buns, but if you eat bean buns every day, it will cause heartburn. This is because glutinous rice is an acidic food. Eating too much will cause acid reflux. Acid reflux will make people feel sad and they will not want to eat, which will affect their health. So, what is the cause of heartburn? Let me introduce you to

Causes of heartburn:

1. Eating too fast or too much. Experts point out that the most common cause of heartburn is eating too fast or too much. Some people also experience heartburn after eating certain specific foods, such as alcohol, chili peppers, etc.

2. Caused by gastrointestinal diseases. Mainly acute and chronic gastritis, bile reflux gastritis, gastric ulcer, reflux esophagitis, etc., can all cause heartburn.

3. In addition, there are some other factors in life, such as work or study pressure, bad mood, frequent irritability and anger, which can cause heartburn.

Many people may have had this experience: after a big meal, they suddenly feel a burning sensation behind their sternum, or even feel as if the food they have eaten is about to burst out of their stomach. Medically it is called heartburn. So what is heartburn? What kind of disease is it and what causes it?

Acid-related diseases

Symptoms of "heartburn" may occur

Diseases caused by excessive gastric acid secretion or abnormal sensitivity to gastric acid are called acid-related diseases. Excessive stomach acid irritates the stomach and causes a burning sensation in the upper abdomen, which is what we usually call "heartburn". Acid-related diseases are a common type of digestive tract diseases, including gastritis, peptic ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease and many other diseases.

Gastritis: Excessive gastric acid secretion irritates the gastric mucosa and produces "heartburn" symptoms.

Gastrointestinal ulcers: Especially duodenal bulb ulcers, excessive secretion of gastric acid is more common, and the symptoms of "heartburn" are also more obvious. This condition is more common in young and middle-aged people, and the symptoms of "heartburn" are particularly obvious at night.

Zollinger-Ellison syndrome: This type of disease is relatively rare. It is caused by the secretion of a large amount of gastric acid by parietal cells, which leads to multiple ulcers and obvious symptoms of heartburn and acid reflux.

Severe heartburn may lead to cancer

"Heartburn" is just a symptom, but the disease behind it will cause harm to your health if left untreated. More severe gastroesophageal reflux disease can lead to reflux esophagitis, and long-term reflux esophagitis may lead to esophageal cancer. In addition, due to long-term irritation of the throat in gastroesophageal reflux disease, chronic pharyngitis, laryngitis or pneumonia may also occur.

Good habits can effectively prevent heartburn

The treatment of heartburn should be targeted based on the disease behind the symptoms. If Helicobacter pylori is detected, eradication treatment should be given; patients with gastritis and ulcers should be treated with antibiotics, anti-acid drugs and gastric mucosal protective agents according to their condition; those with gastroesophageal reflux can use gastrokinetic drugs.
