Compression fracture of thoracic vertebra

Compression fracture of thoracic vertebra

Compression fractures of the twelfth thoracic vertebra can be treated conservatively or surgically. The specific treatment depends on the severity of the disease and cannot be completely determined.

1. Conservative treatment: Compression fracture of the twelfth thoracic vertebra may be caused by trauma. You can go to the hospital in time for X-ray examination or local MRI examination. The severity of the disease can be understood according to the examination results. If it is not particularly serious, conservative treatment can be adopted. Rest in bed in time and avoid strenuous exercise. You can choose to undergo local external fixation treatment with plaster. During the recovery process, take bone-setting tablets orally as prescribed by the doctor to promote fracture healing. Choosing foods rich in calcium, such as soy products, milk, or lean meat, drinking pork rib soup, etc., can also promote fracture recovery. If you can stand and walk, you also need to wear a chest and back brace. When resting, turn over and pat your back regularly to promote the discharge of sputum and avoid bedsores or lung infections.

2. Surgical treatment: Fractures are more serious and unstable fractures should be treated with surgery in a timely manner, such as open reduction and internal fixation. When the pain is unbearable in the later stage, follow the doctor's instructions to take oral analgesics, such as ibuprofen. You can also continue to do functional exercises during recovery.
