Why is my calf swollen and there is a dent when I press it?

If calf swelling occurs, the criterion for judgment is relatively obvious. That is, press it with your hand. If a pit is pressed and it does not recover for a long time, there are many reasons for calf swelling. The most common ones are some cardiovascular diseases, such as heart failure, which causes cardiogenic edema. In addition, decreased renal function and kidney disease can often lead to such a phenomenon. Therefore, you must go to the hospital for corresponding examinations in time.

Why is my calf swollen and there is a dent when I press it?

If calf edema occurs, the pathological causes of lower limb edema should be excluded first. The most common pathological causes are: 1. Cardiogenic edema caused by heart failure due to heart disease, often accompanied by symptoms such as palpitations, shortness of breath, and chest tightness; 2. Nephrogenic edema - such as nephritis, kidney disease, etc., with proteinuria, tubular urine, etc. in routine urine tests. 3. Others include edema caused by hepatic edema, malnutrition and wasting diseases. If relevant examinations have been done but no obvious abnormalities are found, it is very likely that it is idiopathic edema. If women of childbearing age experience edema and no organic cause is found after examination, it is often considered to be idiopathic edema.

This disease mostly affects women aged 20 to 50 years old. Edema can be seen in the hands, face, lower limbs and other parts. Idiopathic edema is characterized by poor postural adaptability, that is, edema worsens after fatigue and long-term standing, and is relieved after bed rest. Due to walking, activities, and long periods of sitting during the day, edema may occur in the sagging parts of the body, such as the ankles. It is often worse in the afternoon or evening. After resting at night, the edema may be reduced or disappear.

Treatment:

Relax your mind: A good mood and cheerful emotions can play a certain role in the treatment of this disease. 1. When edema is obvious, you can rest in bed appropriately; you should also rest in bed for a while at noon to help the recovery of edema. 2. Limit salt intake: no more than 5g of salt per day; reduce water intake appropriately; 3. Wear elastic socks and raise your lower limbs appropriately when resting at night; 4. Functional exercise: do easy leg exercises every day.
