What are the six steps to prevent pressure sores?

In daily life, pressure sores are not unfamiliar to many people. Pressure sores are caused by poor air permeability in patients who are bedridden for a long time, which can easily lead to bedsores on the skin of the body. Bedsores on the body are not only prone to infection, but also easily lead to local skin tissue necrosis, which is very bad for the body. In normal times, it is necessary to prevent the occurrence of pressure sores in time, such as frequent ventilation or wiping the body.

Six ways to prevent pressure sores

Frequent turning over

This is the most important measure to prevent bedsores and also an important measure to prevent pressure on the wound surface.

The specific method is: for general bedridden patients, they should be turned over every 1 to 2 hours. If the pressure area turns red, they should be turned over every hour.

Use a variety of lying positions: left and right side lying, supine, prone position alternating

Use a variety of care tools: soft pillows, air pillows, water pillows, air cushions, sponge rings, etc., placed on protruding bones to prevent the wound from being compressed.

For wheelchair patients, put some sponge pads or soft pillows under the buttocks, change the center of gravity every 15-20 minutes, and practice standing and other movements frequently to help patients do some activities.

Keep your skin clean, dry and intact

Specific method: For general bedridden patients, use warm water to scrub 1 to 2 times a day. Do not use strong irritating detergents during the scrubbing process, and do not rub hard to prevent skin damage. Use baby powder or baby diaper powder to keep your skin dry.

For patients with fecal incontinence, it is necessary to clean the dirt around the anus in time, wash the skin around the anus, and then apply baby diaper powder or diaper cream.

For patients with urinary incontinence, use a BT-type high-necked breathable urine collector;

Proper massage

Let the patient lie prone, pour safflower wine into his hands, then place his hands on the pressure points on the patient's buttocks, and then massage the skin for 5 minutes, repeating every 20 minutes.

Let the patient lie on his side, support his waist and back with a soft pillow, pour safflower wine into his hands, and then massage the pressure points on both sides of the body from light to heavy to light for 5-10 minutes.

Note: If the skin becomes red, stop massaging and prevent further pressure on it. Generally, the skin color will return to normal 30-40 minutes after the pressure is relieved.

Enhance nutrition for bedridden patients

Give patients more high-protein foods such as meat and eggs, eat more vegetable oil to prevent constipation, eat more fruits and vegetables containing plant fiber, eat more foods containing vitamin B; drink more fruit juice and honey to prevent constipation; eat small meals frequently, etc.

Mattress and bed sheet requirements

First of all, you should dry your bedding frequently to keep it dry and clean.

Clean the bedding frequently to ensure it remains flat and clean.

The air mattress should be inflated to suit the patient's skin pressure requirements

Avoid dragging, pulling or tugging the patient when changing the bed sheet to avoid skin damage.

The bed should be made regularly and the bedding changed in time.

Avoid moisture, friction, stimulation from urine and feces, and patients with a lot of secretions should be wiped promptly; patients should not be allowed to lie directly on rubber sheets (or plastic sheets), and the use of damaged bedpans is strictly prohibited.

Improve local blood circulation, check the pressure areas frequently, and massage them regularly with 50% ethanol or safflower alcohol.
