Fang Yi

This prescription is used to treat symptoms caused by blood stasis blocking the chest and stagnation of Qi. This is the syndrome that Wang Qingren called "blood stasis in the chest blood vessel". The chest is where qi is concentrated, blood gathers, and where the liver meridian runs. When blood stagnates in the chest, the Qi flow is blocked, and the clear Yang is suppressed and cannot rise, then chest pain and headache will not heal for a long time, the pain will be like a needle prick, and will be in a fixed place; blood stasis in the chest affects the stomach, and the stomach Qi goes against the flow, so there will be hiccups and dry retching, and even choking when water is taken in; if the stasis turns into heat over a long period of time, there will be internal heat, dizziness, and hot flashes at dusk; if the stasis and heat disturb the heart, there will be palpitations, insomnia and dreaminess; if the stagnation lasts for a long time, the liver will lose its order, so there will be impatience and anger; as for the lips, eyes, tongue, and pulses, they are all signs of blood stasis. The treatment should be to promote blood circulation and remove blood stasis, as well as to promote qi and relieve pain. In the formula, peach kernel breaks up blood stasis and moistens dryness, while safflower activates blood circulation, removes blood stasis and relieves pain, and both are the main medicines. Red peony root and Chuanxiong assist the main drug in promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis; Achyranthes bidentata promotes blood circulation, dredges menstruation, removes blood stasis and relieves pain, and guides blood downward, and they are all assistant drugs. Rehmannia root and Chinese angelica root nourish blood and benefit yin, clear away heat and activate blood circulation; Platycodon grandiflorum and Citrus aurantium, one ascending and one descending, can relieve chest tightness and promote qi circulation; Bupleurum chinense soothes the liver and relieves depression, and ascends to the clear yang. When used together with Platycodon grandiflorum and Citrus aurantium, it is especially good at regulating qi and relieving stagnation, so that qi can flow and blood can flow. All of the above are adjuvant drugs. Platycodon grandiflorum can carry drugs upward and also serves as a guiding drug; licorice harmonizes various drugs and also serves as a guiding drug. When used together, they can activate blood circulation, transform qi and cure various symptoms. It is an excellent prescription for treating blood stasis in the chest.

Compatibility characteristics

First, it combines blood circulation and qi promotion, which can both remove blood stasis and relieve qi stagnation; second, it combines blood stasis removal and blood nourishment, which can activate blood circulation without wasting blood, and promote qi promotion without damaging yin; third, it takes both ascending and descending into consideration, which can both ascend to the clear yang and descend downward to harmonize qi and blood.

use

This prescription is widely used for various diseases caused by blood stasis in the chest. The clinical application focuses on chest pain, headache, pain in a specific location, dark red tongue or ecchymosis, and wiry or tight pulse.

Addition and subtraction

If the blood stasis and pain enter the collaterals, add scorpion, pangolin, earthworm, Trillium, Curcuma zedoaria, etc. to break up blood, dredge collaterals and relieve pain; if the qi stagnation is more serious, add Toosendan fruit, Cyperus rotundus, Citrus aurantium, etc. to soothe the liver, regulate qi and relieve pain; for those with blood stasis, amenorrhea and dysmenorrhea, this prescription can be used without Platycodon grandiflorum, and Cyperus rotundus, Leonurus japonicus, Zedoaria, etc. to promote blood circulation, regulate menstruation and relieve pain; if there is a lump under the ribs, which is caused by blood stasis, add Salvia miltiorrhiza, Curcuma aromatica, Centipede, Leech, etc. to promote blood circulation, break up blood stasis, eliminate symptoms and resolve stagnation.

Taboo

Since the prescription contains a lot of blood-activating and blood-stasis-removing drugs, pregnant women should not use it.
