Can I wear contact lenses for a lifetime?

The emergence of contact lenses has brought convenience to many people. People no longer have their glasses stained by the high temperature of food when eating in winter, and no longer have their glasses fogged up in summer due to heat dissipation from the bridge of the nose. Contact lenses are different, so the above situations will not occur. The emergence of contact lenses is very popular among young people, but some people are worried, can contact lenses be worn for a lifetime? In fact, contact lenses cannot be worn for a lifetime.

Contact lenses are in direct and close contact with the cornea. Wearing them for a long time will affect the cornea's absorption of oxygen, causing symptoms such as eye hypoxia and dry eyes, or complications such as keratitis.

Experts suggest that contact lenses should not be worn for more than 8 to 10 hours a day, and can be worn for a maximum of 14 hours.

Generally, you can wear it during the day and take it off at night. You can wear it when you work or go out and take it off when you get home. In special circumstances, the confinement period can be appropriately extended, but you must carry lubricant with you.

It is also recommended to wear frame glasses 1 to 2 days a week to give the cornea enough breathing space and let the eyes rest. Experts believe that even if contact lenses have a good oxygen permeability and can be worn 24 hours a day, there is no need to wear them 24 hours a day, after all, it will affect corneal breathing.

The dangers of long-term contact lens wear

1. Reduced eye resistance. Contact lenses prevent the cornea from coming into contact with the air. The eyes will experience a condition similar to the human body's "altitude sickness" due to lack of oxygen, and will not be able to metabolize normally and their resistance will decrease.

2. Causes visual fatigue and dry eyes. Wearing contact lenses for a long time can easily cause visual fatigue and even dry eyes.

3. Cause eye allergies. Contact lenses absorb proteins, lipids, collagen, etc. in tears, causing them to deposit on the surface of the lens, breeding bacteria, and causing corneal edema, corneal neovascularization and allergic reactions.

Which type of contact lenses is better?

For those who often wear contact lenses outdoors: please choose contact lenses with UV protection

For those who often have dry eyes: Please choose contact lens products with low water content (high water content lenses with moisturizing technology are also OK)

For those who have had conjunctivitis: Please choose frequently disposable contact lenses (such as daily, two-week, monthly).
