What to do if your sciatic nerve is sore

Swelling and soreness of the sciatic nerve is a manifestation of sciatica, which can cause paralysis in severe cases. So what should you do if your sciatic nerve is sore? Once the sciatica nerve is sore and swollen, you must take it seriously and go to the hospital in time to determine whether it is sciatica to avoid confusing it with other diseases such as lumbar disc herniation. At the same time, you can take the following treatment methods based on the doctor's diagnosis.

What are the early symptoms of sciatica?

1. Low back pain: low back pain, soreness and chillness in the waist. This type of low back pain often occurs after activity and disappears after rest. Later, the back pain gradually worsens and turns into persistent pain, which worsens after activities;

2. Radiating pain from waist to legs: Radiating pain from waist to one side of buttocks, back of thigh, etc., burning or cutting pain, which may be aggravated by coughing or exerting force, and worse at night;

3. Pain caused by pressing in multiple parts of the body: Pressing in the waist, buttocks, ankles, etc. produces pain, which is related to the sciatic nerve.

4. Numbness of both legs: The outer side of the calf and the dorsum of the foot of the affected limb often experience numbness and decreased sensation, the gluteal muscle tension is relaxed, the extensor and flexor muscles of the thumb are weakened, and the Achilles tendon reflex is weakened or disappears.

Treatment measures:

1. Chengfu Point

This point is located below the middle of the horizontal line on the buttocks. When massaging, slowly inhale and press this point with the pads of your fingers other than the thumb. Press for 5 or 6 seconds and then exhale. Repeat this 10 times in the morning and evening. Massaging this point is often used to relieve sciatica pain, lower limb paralysis, and post-polio syndrome.

2. Weizhong Point

This point is located at the midpoint of the popliteal crease, midway between the biceps femoris and semi-muscle tendons. When massaging, use the tips of your thumbs to press the Weizhong points on both sides, pressing and releasing at a constant speed for 20 times in a row until you feel a sore and swollen feeling. Massaging here can relieve pain in the waist and spine, sciatica, etc.

Note: Sciatica can cause serious consequences if not treated promptly. Sciatica can cause a variety of complications, such as lumbar spinal stenosis, lumbar sacral radiculitis, and cauda equina tumors, which can cause lameness or even paralysis. Director Kang recommends that everyone develop the habit of going to orthopedic hospitals for regular physical examinations to take care of themselves and their families.
