Some mothers find that their children's throats have become hoarse and they are very worried that their children may have some disease. In fact, if our children often yell and cry, this kind of situation will occur. As long as they get more rest, they will be fine. But besides this reason, is there any other possible cause? Today I will tell you what causes hoarse throat in children? Acute laryngitis The most common symptom is hoarseness. Acute laryngitis in children is more serious than that in adults. In addition to hoarseness, they also have symptoms such as fever and cough. Laryngoscopic examination revealed acute congestion of the laryngeal mucosa, edema of the vocal cords with purulent secretions, and varying degrees of restriction in vocal cord movement. This disease should be differentiated from laryngeal diphtheria and foreign bodies in the respiratory tract. Pharyngeal diphtheria It is often secondary to pharyngeal diphtheria. Hoarseness and dry cough are the first symptoms of laryngeal diphtheria, which are more common in children. In the early stage of the disease, pronunciation is rough, which gradually worsens from hoarseness to complete aphonia. In addition to laryngeal symptoms, most patients have obvious signs of poisoning. Laryngoscopic examination revealed red and swollen mucosa covered with a white pseudomembrane. Smear and culture can confirm the diagnosis. Chronic laryngitis Patients with chronic laryngitis often complain of dry and uncomfortable throat, frequent coughing in the morning, and sticky secretions. The tone of voice is low and the voice quality varies from rough to sandy and hoarse, which is inconsistent with the severity of the inflammation. There are 3 different types of laryngoscopy. 1. The simple type of laryngeal tympanic membrane is diffusely congested, smooth, moist, with dilated small veins, and the glottis closes poorly during phonation. 2. Hypertrophic laryngeal mucosa congestion and symmetrical hypertrophy, with limited polypoid or papillary protrusions. 3. Atrophic mucosa is dry, atrophic and crusted. Hypertrophic laryngitis should be differentiated from tumors, and a biopsy can confirm the diagnosis. Laryngeal tuberculosis Primary cases are rare, and most are secondary to open pulmonary tuberculosis. In the early stages, patients experience dryness, discomfort or slight pain in the throat, and their voice becomes easily fatigued or they experience mild hoarseness. Examination showed pale laryngeal mucosa and congestion of one side of the vocal cord. In the late stage, hoarseness is significant, and examination of the laryngeal mucosa reveals ulcers, often located on one side of the vocal cord or interarytenoid area. The ulcer was superficial with irregular margins and covered with a pseudomembrane. The diagnosis can be confirmed by chest X-ray, chest X-ray, and biopsy. |
