Some people have a lump on their head, and it hurts if pressed with hands. Most of the times, people with a lump on their head are likely to have sebaceous cysts. If you have a lump on your head, you must go to the hospital for treatment and examination as soon as possible. It is necessary to further confirm whether it is a sebaceous cyst. If it is diagnosed as a sebaceous cyst, it can usually be treated with surgery. Pay more attention to rest and take more vitamins. For sebaceous cysts, surgical excision is currently the only treatment method, while the concurrent infection caused by sebaceous cysts requires drug treatment to heal. 1. Surgical resection Once diagnosed, patients with sebaceous cysts should undergo surgery to completely remove the cyst. Currently, surgery is the only treatment for sebaceous cysts. During the operation, a fusiform skin incision can be designed along the skin grain direction on the skin connected to the cyst, especially when the duct opening is seen, and the cyst is removed together with the skin. Special care should be taken during the separation because the cyst wall is very thin and should be removed as completely as possible. If there is any remnant of the cyst wall, it is easy to cause recurrence. However, if the patient's sebaceous glands have inflammatory symptoms such as redness, swelling, heat and pain before surgery, the inflammation should be controlled first and then the surgery can be arranged. During surgical removal, a noticeable scar may occur. If the scar is large, the patient can choose to have a cosmetic surgery to remove it. Patients who meet the conditions can use endoscopic surgery to remove subcutaneous cysts. This method can avoid surgical incision scars and is a newly developed surgical method in recent years. 2. Concurrent infection If a patient with sebaceous cyst develops a concurrent infection, he or she should first take oral antibiotics (such as enhanced sulfamethoxazole tablets, midecamycin, etc.) and use anti-inflammatory treatments such as hot compresses. After the inflammation subsides, surgical resection can be performed to completely remove the sebaceous cyst. 3. Prognosis A small number of cortical cysts may become cancerous, most will transform into basal cell carcinoma, and a few will become squamous cell carcinoma. Therefore, after surgical resection, the patient should go to the hospital for regular check-ups to see if there is any residue left. Symptoms of sebaceous cysts1. Spherical tumor. The typical symptom of cortical cysts is the growth of soft or slightly firm spherical tumors on the face which is rich in sebaceous glands. These spherical tumors can be as small as beans or as large as small oranges. These cysts are generally round in shape, located within the skin and protruding toward the skin surface, with the cyst wall tightly adhered to the skin. There may be a small pigment spot in the center, and grayish-white curd-like, smelly contents can be squeezed out from the opening, like white tofu dregs. 2. Secondary infection. Sebaceous cysts may become secondarily infected, which may manifest as: local skin redness, swelling, softening, increased skin temperature, pain, and suppuration. 3. Sebaceous cysts develop slowly, are round in shape, have clear boundaries with surrounding tissues, are soft in texture, are non-tender, and are movable. Generally no symptoms. |
