Typical features of acute eczema

Typical features of acute eczema

I believe everyone is familiar with the disease of eczema. Its biggest characteristic is that it causes severe itching, which can occur in any part of the body. The causative factors of acute eczema are closely related to age, environment, genetics, sunlight, humidity and heat, etc. Acute eczema is very harmful. We need to know the typical characteristics of acute eczema and treat it in time when it is discovered. So, what are the typical characteristics of acute eczema?

In the early or acute stage, the clinical symptoms are patches of erythema and papules, or blisters that are invisible to the naked eye. In severe cases, large areas of exudate and erosion may occur. In the subacute state, the exudate decreases and crusts form, and the skin lesions turn from bright red to dark red, with no large areas of erosion. In the chronic state, the exudate is less or completely dry and crusts form, which are often mixed with scales to form scaly crusts. The skin lesions are darker in color or pigmented, and sometimes the pigment is reduced. Cracks are prone to occur in the skin lines, especially in areas with greater activity. Long-term friction and scratching cause significant lichenification, which is difficult to distinguish from neurodermatitis. Eczema has many forms, is prone to remission, aggravation or recurrence, and has unclear boundaries. The rash is often distributed symmetrically, and may present with different manifestations such as erythema, papules, blisters, erosions, scales, crusts, increased or decreased pigmentation, chapped or lichenified areas, depending on the acuteness or chronicity of the disease. Multiple manifestations are often mixed together and occur one after another. If there is secondary infection, there may also be skin lesions such as pustules.

Differential Diagnosis

Acute eczema needs to be differentiated from contact dermatitis. Contact dermatitis: patients have a history of contact. In mild cases, there is only local congestion and clear-bordered light red or bright red spots; in severe cases, there may be lesions such as papules, blisters, bullae, erosions and exudation; strong irritants may cause skin necrosis or ulcers; when the body is highly sensitive, it may spread throughout the body. In addition to itching and pain, a few people may have systemic symptoms such as chills, fever, nausea, and vomiting.

Avoid irritation to the affected area, avoid scratching the area with your hands, do not use hot water or soapy water to clean the area, and do not apply highly irritating drugs or hormone drugs on the area casually. These are common factors that can easily worsen the disease or cause it to recur. Avoid eating some irritating foods, such as onions, ginger, garlic, strong tea, coffee, alcohol and other foods that are prone to cause allergies, such as fish, shrimp and other seafood. Due to individual differences, differences may occur between different individuals or within the same individual at different times. In addition to dietary factors, inhaled substances such as pollen, dust, mites, bacteria and fungal infections on the body surface, changes in living environment, and various substances that are contacted may become common external causes of acute eczema. Lesions in the body, such as tonsillitis, cholecystitis, neuropsychiatric factors, changes in endocrine and metabolic conditions, such as menstruation and pregnancy, may all be the main internal causes of acute eczema. External skin nutritional therapy can use vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E, borage oil, vitamin B6, etc.
