1. Treat cold and heat diarrhea during pregnancy and postpartum period

One pound of Phellodendron bark, one liter of Coptis chinensis, and twenty Gardenia jasminoides. Chop the above three ingredients into small pieces, soak them in five liters of water overnight, boil them three times, and take one liter of it over one day and one night. For vomiting, add a handful of orange peel and two ounces of ginger.

2. Treat male genital sores and ulcers

Boil the bark of Phellodendron chinense and wash it with it, then apply white honey on it. Take equal parts of Coptis chinensis and Phellodendron amurense bark, grind them into powder, boil fat pork juice, soak the wound with it, and then powder it.

3. Treating fever diarrhea in children

Roast the bark of Phellodendron chinense and grind it into powder. Mix it with rice soup and make it into pills the size of corn. Take 10 to 20 pills each time with rice soup.

4. Treat carbuncle and swelling

Phellodendron chinense bark and Aconitum carmichaelii in equal parts. For application before mixing, leave some residue and frequently moisten it with rice bath water.

5. Treat typhoid fever with yellow body and fever

Fifteen fat balls, one ounce of licorice, and two ounces of Phellodendron chinense bark. Take the above three ingredients, add four liters of water, boil and reduce to one and a half liters, remove the residue and divide into portions to drink while warm.

6. Treat pain in tendons and bones caused by dampness and heat

Phellodendron bark and Atractylodes lancea. Grind the above two ingredients into powder and take with boiling water and ginger juice. Both of them have a strong and powerful energy. For those with strong and solid energy, add a little wine to them.

The bark of the Phellodendron chinense tree has a certain anti-inflammatory effect and can treat many inflammations, such as wound suppuration, dysentery and various infections. It also has a certain effect on high blood pressure. Because it is a medicine, normal people are advised not to take it indiscriminately. Phellodendron chinense is a woody plant of the Rutaceae family. Its bark mainly contains various bioalkaloids such as berberine, magnoliline, phellodendron chinense, bamatin, as well as lactones, sterols, mucilage, etc. It has the functions of clearing away heat and detoxifying, purging fire and drying dampness, and also has antibacterial and antihypertensive effects. It has therapeutic effects on many diseases such as acute enteritis, acute icteric hepatitis, bacterial dysentery, etc. Therefore, people use Phellodendron chinense bark as a broad-spectrum Chinese medicine.

However, up to now, the methods for collecting Phellodendron bark are either to dig up the Phellodendron trees with their roots and peel the bark of dead trees, or to peel the bark of living Phellodendron trees regardless of time and method, resulting in a large number of Phellodendron trees being cut down and peeled alive and dying, causing serious damage to the resources of the main Phellodendron producing areas such as Liaoning, Jilin, Heilongjiang, and Inner Mongolia.
