Baby spitting up water

Baby spitting up water

Because the baby is in the growth period, during this period, the baby's various functions are constantly developing and improving. For babies, there are many symptoms of various diseases caused by low immunity. For example, many parents find that their babies vomit clear water while taking care of them. This problem is mostly caused by gastroesophageal reflux. Below we will introduce you to the relevant knowledge about gastroesophageal reflux in detail!

1. What is the reason for the baby to spit up clear water?

This may be related to gastroesophageal reflux, which is the backflow of gastric and/or duodenal contents into the esophagus. The vast majority of reflux is physiological and not severe. It gradually decreases with age and naturally resolves at around 1 year old without causing adverse consequences. It is more common in temporary reflux that occurs in newborns and young infants after feeding and functional reflux (or irritable vomiting) in infants and young children, and does not cause pathological damage. Just pay attention to breastfeeding in small amounts and frequently to avoid aspiration.

2. Causes of Disease

Gastroesophageal reflux disease is a gastrointestinal motility disorder caused by multiple factors. There is esophageal reflux of acid or other harmful substances such as monoacids and pancreatic enzymes. Under normal circumstances, the esophagus has the function of defending against the invasion of gastric acid and duodenal contents, including anti-reflux barrier, esophageal clearance function and the resistance of esophageal mucosal tissue. The onset of gastroesophageal reflux disease is the result of a decrease in anti-reflux defense mechanisms and the attack of reflux on the esophageal mucosa.

3. Preventive Care

Lifestyle changes are aimed at reducing acid reflux and decreasing the contact time between refluxed material and the esophageal mucosa.

1. People who are overweight will increase abdominal pressure and promote reflux, so they should avoid eating foods that promote reflux and lose weight.

2. Eat multiple meals and do not eat within 4 hours before going to bed to minimize gastric contents and gastric pressure at night. If necessary, raise the head of the bed by 10 cm. This is very important for reflux when lying flat at night, using gravity to clear harmful substances in the esophagus.

3. Avoid various actions and postures that increase abdominal pressure for a long time in life, including wearing tight clothes and tightening belts, which will help prevent reflux.

4. Quit smoking and drinking, and eat less chocolate and coffee, etc., because smoking reduces the production of saliva and is also related to heartburn; drinking, eating chocolate and coffee, etc. will reduce the tension of the lower esophageal sphincter, delay gastric emptying, and reduce the esophagus's acid-clearing ability.
