(1) Nevus on the conjunctiva

(2) Congenital melanocytic hyperplasia

《2》 Congenital melanocytosis : A large light blue-gray patch can be found in the deep layer of the conjunctiva of one eye and the white part of the eye at birth. It is mainly caused by the proliferation of local melanocytes in the uveal tract and sclera deep in the eyeball. Some Asians may also have blue-gray patches on the skin near the affected eye, which we call "Ota's spot". These patients have a higher chance of developing uveal malignant pigment tumors than normal people. 《3》Acquired melanin hyperplasia: It usually occurs in middle-aged people, with irregular patches on the white of one eye. It is mainly caused by conjunctival melanin hyperplasia. If abnormal melanocytes appear in pathological sections or in clinical practice, in addition to patches in the white of the eye, patches are also found in the conjunctiva on the inner side of the eyelid, then the chance of transformation into a malignant tumor is greatly increased. Therefore, if middle-aged people find abnormal patches in the white of the eye, and they tend to increase in size, the lesions should be removed. In addition to aesthetics, pathological sections can also be used to determine whether they are benign or malignant.

《4》Malignant melanoma of the conjunctiva : Malignant melanoma metastasizes to other parts of the body very quickly, first to the preauricular or submandibular lymph nodes, with a mortality rate of about 25%, especially in multiple or deeply invaded lesions, the prognosis is even worse. When we face conjunctival pigmented lesions, just like when we encounter moles on the skin, we do not need to worry too much. If the color and size remain constant, most of them are benign tissues and do not require special treatment. However, if there are obvious changes in color or size, it is best to remove it and send it for pathological examination in order to discover the traces of malignant tumors as soon as possible.
