What is the nose base?

What is the nose base?

The nose base refers to the base part where the external nose connects to the upper lip. The nose base determines the shape of the nose. If the nose base is not good-looking, then the person's nose shape will naturally not look good. For this reason, many people who seek beauty will use various methods to change their nose shape, and nose base filling surgery is one of them. Below, we will introduce to you in detail what the nose base is and the relevant knowledge about nose base filling surgery!

1. What is the base?

The nose base, as the name suggests, is the base part where the nose (mainly refers to the external nose, which is the part of the nose that can be seen from the outside) connects to the upper lip. The height of the nose base mainly refers to the height in the same direction as the columella (sagittal, meaning the front-to-back direction). After padding the nose base, the side will have a more three-dimensional feel, and it can also lift the overall feeling of the nose on the entire face.

In Korea, nose base filling surgery is also called richness surgery or aristocratic surgery. In China, surgery to raise the nose base is rare.

2. Indications for nose base filling surgery

For people with a sunken mid-face (sunken nasal base), the problem of facial depression (sunken nasal base) cannot be improved by rhinoplasty alone. Only through nose base filling surgery can you achieve satisfactory results and make the face look fuller.

Technical characteristics: The technical requirements are relatively high and generally not easy to master.

The main purpose of nose base filling surgery is to improve the depressions in the nose base. It can be performed alone. If combined with rhinoplasty or comprehensive nose plastic surgery, the overall effect will be better and the three-dimensional effect will be stronger.

3. Rhinoplasty Methods

The most common nose base plastic surgery is the plastic surgery of the nose wing base and the columella base. The main method is filling. There are three main types of filling materials:

1. Prosthesis filling

Currently, the main prosthetic material used is expanded polytetrafluoroethylene, and the incision is made on the inside of the nostril. After the operation, the nasolabial folds, protruding mouth, and gummy smile can be significantly improved.

However, because the nose and lips are very expressive, filling them with prostheses will cause a more obvious foreign body sensation and the expression will not be natural enough. If the prosthesis is too thick, it may cause a "lion face" condition. In addition, the prosthetic nasal base pad will widen the nose to a certain extent, causing the nostrils to become wider. Unless there is a special need, this method of improvement is not recommended.

2. Hyaluronic acid filling

Filling the nose base with hyaluronic acid will make it look more natural, but due to the rich expressions of the nose and lips, the metabolism of hyaluronic acid will be accelerated, so the effect will be relatively short-lived.

3. Autologous fat transplantation

The filling effect of autologous fat transplantation is similar to that of hyaluronic acid. It is more commonly used for filling the base of the nose and will look more natural after recovery. Since fat can be absorbed, a second filler may be needed; once fat survives, it is permanent and will age with the normal aging of the human body.
