The parents thought that the child had a cold and thought that if he gave him some cold medicine at home, he would gradually get better. The next day, the girl's condition worsened and she went to the city children's hospital for treatment.

The doctor found obvious redness and swelling in the girl's groin area and suspected it was caused by inguinal hernia. The results of the B-ultrasound examination also confirmed this judgment. Not only was there a hernia, but it was also obviously incarcerated. The entire right ovary was firmly incarcerated, and surgery had to be performed immediately.

Unfortunately, because the incarceration time exceeded 15 hours, the right ovarian appendage had been deprived of blood supply for a long time and had become necrotic, so it had to be removed.

According to Bian Hongqiang, chief physician of general surgery at the Municipal Children's Hospital, there are many parents like the girl's parents who have no idea about pediatric hernia. Generally, hernias will gradually shrink and close with age, but for some infants and young children, their hernias will close slowly or not at all due to developmental reasons, like a time bomb.

Tip: If you find a lump in your child's groin that does not shrink on its own after more than 4 hours, go to the hospital immediately. At present, pediatric hospitals mostly use laparoscopy for surgery, which can remove the "time bomb" in children with minimal trauma and without scars, and there is no age limit.
