Drugs for macular degeneration

There are many types of drugs for treating macular degeneration, which is a retinal disease in which a large number of cells affect the photosensitivity, causing patients to see things blurry. When reading and doing detailed work, the eyes cannot see clearly. This can be treated with medication, but it must be used for the right symptoms.

What is macular degeneration?

Answer: The macula is located in the center of the retina and contains a large number of photoreceptor cells (photoreceptors) that are responsible for central vision. Central vision is necessary for daily life, such as reading, driving, recognizing other people's facial features, and doing fine work. Macular degeneration is a chronic disease in which the macula on the retina gradually deteriorates. Although most cases of macular degeneration will not lead to complete blindness, they will cause blurred central vision or blind spots, affecting your quality of life. Age-related macular degeneration is the leading cause of severe vision loss in people over 50 years old and a leading cause of blindness in adults worldwide. There are two types of macular degeneration: dry macular degeneration (DMD) and wet macular degeneration (WMD). In comparison, dry macular degeneration is much more common. In this type of macular degeneration, the disease process in the macular tissue is not accompanied by bleeding symptoms. Wet macular degeneration is usually a progression from dry macular degeneration. In this more severe form of macular degeneration, blood vessels grow and blood leaks into the macula.

Q: What are the symptoms of macular degeneration?

A: Macular degeneration can cause some changes in your vision.

1) When reading or doing delicate work, the light always feels not bright enough.

2) It becomes increasingly difficult to adjust to less brightly lit areas (such as when walking into a dimly lit restaurant).

3) The perception of color brightness decreases.

4) The overall vision gradually becomes blurry.

5) The central vision becomes blurred or a blind spot appears.
