The difference between menstruation and pregnancy

The difference between menstruation and pregnancy

The symptoms of menstruation are completely different from those of pregnancy. Menstruation is a regular physiological cycle, which often makes girls feel irritable when it occurs. They may experience body heat, irritability and mild abdominal pain. The main characteristics of menstruation during pregnancy are small amount of bleeding, light color, no obvious dysmenorrhea, and often feel physical discomfort and mild nausea.

The difference between menstruation and pregnancy

Menstruation is a physiological cycle that occurs in some fertile female humans and in chimpanzees and other hominins. Cows, horses, camels, pigs, and sheep also menstruate, and some mammals experience estrus cycles. In women of childbearing age and female primates, the endometrium undergoes cyclical changes every month or so, with autonomous thickening, blood vessel proliferation, glandular growth and secretion, and endometrial collapse and shedding accompanied by bleeding. This periodic vaginal discharge or uterine bleeding is called menstruation.

Symptoms of pregnancy and menstruation

The characteristics of pregnancy menstruation are less bleeding, lighter color, and shorter duration. It is different from any previous menstruation. In fact, this is not real menstruation. This phenomenon occurs within 3 months of pregnancy and usually only occurs once, but some pregnant women experience it 2-3 times. If vaginal bleeding is caused by disease, if it is not treated in time, it will lead to corresponding disease symptoms and affect the health of the mother and fetus.

Pregnancy and menstrual examination

1. Ultrasound examination

In the early stages of pregnancy, if a pregnant woman has menstruation, she will generally be advised to undergo an ultrasound examination when she goes to the hospital for treatment. The purpose of B-ultrasound examination is to determine whether the embryo is located in the uterus and not an ectopic pregnancy and whether the embryo developing in the uterus is consistent with the number of weeks of amenorrhea. Under normal circumstances, fetal heartbeats can be seen through B-ultrasound 7-8 weeks after menstruation. If not, the doctor will need to check the time of conception again. If the ultrasound results do not reveal any abnormalities in the embryo, blood hormone levels will be needed.

2. Other examinations

In addition to B-ultrasound examinations, pregnant women can also undergo oxygen inhalation, fetal ECG monitoring, blood tests and other examinations. If bleeding is excessive, the patient should be mentally prepared to receive a blood transfusion, uterine curettage, abandonment of the fetus, or even a laparotomy.
