There is a hard mass inside the cesarean section incision

We all know that there are two common ways for women to give birth: natural birth and cesarean section. No matter which method is used, it is like undergoing a major operation for women, and it requires a lot of energy and blood from women. Although cesarean section is easier during the birth process, the incision will indeed be very painful afterwards. Some women feel a lump inside the incision after cesarean section. What's going on?

1Why is there a lump in the cesarean section wound: caused by scar tissue

Generally, the texture and elasticity of these scar tissues are different from those of normal tissues. Don't worry, they will gradually soften over time. About two to three weeks after the cesarean section incision has formed, the scar begins to proliferate, and the area becomes red, purple, and hardened, and protrudes from the skin surface. It lasts for about three months to half a year, during which the proliferation of fibrous tissue gradually stops, the scar gradually becomes flatter and softer, and the color turns dark brown. At this time, the cesarean section scar will become painful and itchy. Especially when sweating profusely or when the weather changes, the itching is often so severe that one has to scratch until bleeding. Therefore, it is said among scar patients that pain is easy to bear, but itching is unbearable.

There are lumps on the wound after a cesarean section, which are caused by postoperative injuries, the cutting off of blood circulation nerves, and the proliferation of fibers during the wound healing process. Therefore, there is no need to worry too much about lumps on the cesarean section wound. After the wound heals, applying hot compresses can speed up the disappearance of the lumps.

2Why is there a lump in the cesarean section wound: Inflammation

Mild inflammation

If the wound shows increased exudate, redness, swelling, heat, pain, and other mild inflammatory symptoms, the wound should be rinsed with normal saline in time to clean the foreign matter and sweat stains from the wound, and then the wound can be wiped with iodine tincture.

Moderate to severe inflammation

If the initial inflammation of the wound is not promptly and properly treated, the infection will be aggravated, the exudate will increase and pus will appear, and even yellow-white necrotic tissue or scab will appear on the wound; at this time, you should ask a doctor to clean the wound surface.
