Will hypertrophic scars heal on their own?

Will hypertrophic scars heal on their own?

Generally speaking, hypertrophic scars cannot be cured by themselves. If you do not pay attention to maintenance, the scars may continue to grow, which has a great impact on appearance. If hypertrophic scars appear on the face, it often seriously affects the appearance. At this time, certain methods can be used for treatment, and the appropriate method can be selected according to different symptoms, such as surgical treatment, laser treatment, compression treatment, etc.

Hypertrophic scar treatment methods

Hypertrophic scars are constantly changing since they occur. At the beginning, the fibers of the scar proliferate rapidly and in large quantities. Excessive fibrosis often compresses and closes the blood vessels inside the scar, causing it to gradually become ischemic. At present, scar treatment at home and abroad mostly adopts local drug closure, skin transplantation, surgical excision and skin grafting, lens scar abrasion, balloon dilatation, antibody injection, radiotherapy, compression therapy, hormone therapy, silicone and other therapies. They are not very mature in clinical practice and their efficacy remains to be seen. Moreover, some of them take a long time, are very painful, are prone to recurrence, and have adverse consequences. Many of them are not satisfactory.

1. Local subcutaneous injection

For scar hyperplasia, the drug injection is directly injected into the scar for treatment. The main ingredient of this drug is steroids, which can fight inflammation and inhibit scar growth. This is currently the simplest treatment method for scar hyperplasia.

2. Surgery

Surgical treatment of scar hyperplasia is relatively suitable for scars with larger areas. The treatment is relatively difficult, and the clinical effect is generally good. Common methods include: scar excision and skin grafting, skin flap method, simple excision and suture method, skin expander expansion and excision method, and free skin grafting method.

3. Compression therapy

Compression therapy should be used as early as possible, preferably after the wound has healed. If used 6 months after scar formation, the effect is generally poor. The amount of pressure should be adjusted according to the location and the patient's feeling, and generally should not be less than 1.3 kpa. Use it persistently and continuously.

4. Laser therapy

The lasers used in scar treatment mainly include CO2 laser and dye laser. CO2 laser uses its photothermal reaction to burn scar tissue, causing it to vaporize and carbonize. The dye laser beam can occlude blood vessels with a diameter less than 0.5 mm in the tissue, causing focal necrosis and thus alleviating hypertrophic scars.

5. Radiation therapy

The application of superficial radiation can delay the proliferation of vascular endothelial cells and fibroblasts, has a good therapeutic effect on early lesions, and is also suitable for preventing recurrence of hypertrophic scars after excision.

6. Micro-crystal grinding

Microdermabrasion for scar removal is a minimally invasive skin cosmetic procedure. By spraying sterile tiny microcrystalline particles onto the surface of the treatment area, the aged and damaged skin cells are loosened and shed. At the same time, by stimulating the skin's germinal layer to absorb oxygen and promote blood circulation, the production of collagen and elastin is promoted. Combined with corresponding skin care treatments, the skin becomes delicate, smooth, clear and natural, with elasticity and luster.
