Causes of patellar injury

Causes of patellar injury

Injury to the patella of the knee is quite common in our daily life and there are many causes of it, such as joint injury and degenerative lesions. If it is more serious, it may even cause quadriceps atrophy. When hip joint injury occurs, it must be treated promptly. Mild cases can be treated with physical or drug methods, while severe cases can also be treated surgically.

Causes of patellar injury

1. More common in young and middle-aged people, especially young athletes. Excessive exercise by athletes causes long-term wear and tear on the knee joints, which is a common cause of this disease. 2. Women with larger pelvis, X-shaped legs, frequent kneeling, weak quadriceps, and flat feet are also prone to patellar chondromalacia. 3. Women who often wear high heels. When women go up and down stairs in high heels, the patella bears a weight of 7 to 9 times their body weight, which can easily cause patellar chondromalacia. 4. Common diseases and typical symptoms (1) Recurrent patellar dislocation, retropatellar pain, knee joint swelling and blood accumulation, etc. (2) Acute patellar dislocation, patellar fracture, patellar softening, feeling of emptiness in front of the patella, etc. (3) Patellofemoral joint pain, patellar fracture, patellar pain, pain in single-leg half-squat, etc. (4) Chondromalacia patella: patellar softening, patellar pain, infrapatellar pain, etc. (5) Patellar osteochondrosis: patellar pain, peripatellar tenderness, anterior knee pain, etc.

Treatment principles

1. Physical therapy (1) Ice compress: In the early stage of injury, strenuous activities and squatting should be reduced to protect the knee joint. Hot compresses should be avoided in the acute stage (within 24 hours) of contusion or sprain. The best time for cold treatment is within 4 hours, and ice compresses should be applied to the injured area. (2) Hot compress: Chronic knee strain should be treated with hot compress and massage of muscles and ligaments. Strengthens the quadriceps and biceps femoris muscles. (3) Combine massage with physical therapy to enhance the effect.

2. Drug treatment: Oral anti-inflammatory drugs, such as glucometacin; or intra-articular injection of sodium hyaluronate, prednisolone acetate, etc. It has certain anti-inflammatory, pain-relieving and joint mobility-increasing effects. 3. Surgical treatment includes patellar cartilage cutting, including superficial cartilage cutting, cutting cartilage to reach bone and bone drilling. It has a certain effect and can restore the endocrine balance of the tibial joint.
