Alcoholics are mentally ill.

Alcoholics are mentally ill.

Frequent alcoholism is very harmful to the health of the body. It may cause changes in emotions and easily lead to damage to the brain's nervous system. In severe cases, it may cause mental disorders such as auditory and visual hallucinations. This is why people say that alcoholics may be mentally abnormal. In addition, alcoholism also has a great impact on the family. Such people tend to be more irritable.

1. The impact of alcoholism on individuals:

Long-term drinking can cause damage to the brain and nervous system. In severe cases, mental disorders such as hallucinations, visual hallucinations, auditory hallucinations, tactile hallucinations, olfactory hallucinations, and gustatory hallucinations may occur. Alcohol can cause obvious damage to the liver, brain, kidneys, pancreas and digestive tract. People who have been drinking for more than 10 years have a significant decline in memory and judgment. At the same time, when drunk, people are prone to work-related accidents and traffic accidents, which can have serious consequences.

2. The impact of alcoholism on the family:

Chronic alcoholism can wreak havoc on a family. Alcoholics often find it difficult to control their emotions and behaviors. They often become suspicious, talk nonsense, and quarrel with others after drinking, which can easily cause family conflicts. Therefore, alcoholism is an important cause of family discord, domestic violence and family breakdown.

Long-term alcoholism is also the main cause of divorce nowadays. Among divorce cases in my country, 32% are related to alcoholism. This is obviously much higher than other factors. Due to these reasons, the children of alcoholics often cannot grow up normally, many of them drop out of school, and are easily led down the path of depravity and crime. In addition, children from alcoholic families are twice as likely to have drinking-related problems as those from non-alcoholic families.

3. Social harm of alcoholism:

The harm that alcoholism causes to society is everywhere. According to surveys, many family breakups are caused by alcoholism. Most traffic accidents are also caused by drivers driving under the influence of alcohol. Surveys conducted abroad have shown that among the many factors that cause social instability, alcoholism ranks first. Alcoholism can also lead to mental abnormalities, which can be manifested as suspicion after drinking, talking nonsense, and frequent quarrels with others.
