Is it better to have an IUD or take birth control pills?

IUDs and birth control pills are both common methods of contraception. It is impossible to say which one is better. We can only say that in specific circumstances, according to different ages and situations, adopting corresponding methods is the best method of contraception. For example, in an emergency, you can take emergency contraceptive pills. For married women who do not want to have children, IUDs are a better choice.

Introduction to contraceptive methods

As the quality of life improves, more and more contraceptive methods are available. Various books and the Internet talk about various contraceptive methods. Which method is the safest, easiest to use, and most suitable for you? What are the reliable contraceptive methods? In fact, the methods are different for different ages.

People are in different periods of life, not only their physiological conditions are different, but also their actual thoughts and opinions at the time are different. Therefore, the best contraceptive methods are also different at each stage.

1. Newlyweds:

It is best to use condoms for men and short-acting oral contraceptives for women. Since the vagina of newly married women is tighter, it is not suitable to insert an IUD or a vaginal diaphragm. If you want to get pregnant after six months, you should not use long-acting contraceptives (injections), because if you use long-acting contraceptives, you can only get pregnant six months after stopping the medication, otherwise it will be harmful to the fetus.

2. Couples visiting relatives:

It is better to use male condoms and female contraceptive pills for visiting relatives. It is not advisable to use the safe period contraceptive method because when couples who are separated meet, they are emotionally excited and often "ovulate impromptu" or "ovulate in advance". The safe period cannot be calculated accurately, which can easily lead to contraceptive failure.

3. Breastfeeding women:

Male condoms and female vaginal diaphragms plus contraceptive creams are preferred; oral contraceptives should not be used because they can affect milk secretion and the growth and development of the baby.

4. Couples with only one child:

It is best to use short-acting oral contraceptives for women. If you need to have another child, just stop taking the contraceptives. When the children are young, it is not advisable for both men and women to undergo sterilization to prevent accidents to the children; although both men and women can have intercourse again, it is still somewhat difficult. But if you no longer want to have children, sterilization is the best option.

5. Menopausal women:

Condoms, contraceptive diaphragms and contraceptive suppositories are preferred, and oral or injectable contraceptives are not suitable. Because the ovarian function of menopausal women has gradually declined, this often manifests as menstrual disorders, and oral or injectable contraceptives will aggravate menstrual disorders.
