Can a hemangioma go away on its own?

Can a hemangioma go away on its own?

Hemangioma is a relatively common disease. In general, most hemangiomas are benign tumors. Of course, some vascular malformations are included in the scope of hemangiomas. Although hemangioma is not limited by age, most patients with hemangioma are infants. When they are fetuses, pregnant women are exposed to some external stimulation, which leads to this condition in the fetus.

Can hemangioma disappear on its own? 1. Clinically, simple strawberry hemangioma (true hemangioma characterized by endothelial cell proliferation) is divided into three stages: growth phase, stable phase and regression phase, while more mixed hemangiomas, cavernous hemangiomas and racemose hemangiomas grow throughout life and will not regress. 2. When strawberry hemangioma enters the remission period, most of the time it just stops growing. Remission does not mean disappearance. At present, it is still impossible to predict when the hemangioma will disappear, how quickly it will disappear, whether it can disappear, and whether it will cause aesthetic problems after disappearance. Most reports indicate that nearly 50% of hemangiomas cause deformities. Parents should understand that regression does not mean complete disappearance.

3. Existing evidence shows that: ① Even for hemangiomas that resolve on their own, 60% still require plastic surgery, laser therapy, or a combination of the two; ② It is impossible to accurately predict when and to what extent the hemangioma will resolve; ③ Hemangiomas can cause social and psychological trauma to children and their families, and this trauma is often difficult to heal; ④ Existing treatments for hemangiomas are relatively safe, effective, and controllable. Therefore, parents should not have too much hope that hemangioma will disappear on its own, but should adopt a positive attitude. Early detection and early treatment are the most important principles to avoid the increase of harm caused by hemangioma.

Treatment of hemangioma Currently, the commonly used methods for treating hemangioma include drug therapy, laser therapy and surgical treatment. There is no one method that can treat all types of hemangiomas. It should be determined based on factors such as the type, location, depth of the tumor and the age of the patient. Commonly used methods include: surgical resection, radiotherapy, cryosurgery, sclerosing agent injection and laser irradiation. The principles of treatment are: 1. Prevent or treat related complications that seriously endanger life or function; 2. Prevent deformities or facial defects caused by the regression of hemangiomas; 3. Prevent ulcers and infections, and for patients who already have ulcers, promote ulcer healing, reduce scar formation, and relieve pain; 4. Reduce the psychological pressure of children and their families; 5. Avoid overtreatment of lesions that can resolve on their own and have a good prognosis.
