Low number of intermediate cells

Low number of intermediate cells

In daily life, it is difficult for people to avoid getting sick or having pains because they eat a variety of grains. Once they get sick and go to the hospital, they can only follow the doctor's orders to do various related examinations to determine the condition. Among them, blood test is generally a must-do item. However, when you get the results, the various items and values above are a headache. The number of intermediate cells that we are going to talk about today is also included in these projects, but what is the reason when the number of intermediate cells is low? Let’s learn about it together below.

Intermediate cells are a group of white blood cells classified into three groups, mainly monocytes, eosinophils, and alkaliphils. When the proportion of intermediate cells is greater than 10%, monocytes and eosinophils should generally be manually classified under a microscope to see which specific type of white blood cells is elevated.

Classification:

1. Monocytosis is seen in monocytic leukemia, certain tuberculosis, malaria, etc. Monocytopenia is generally not clinically significant.

2. Eosinophilia is seen in tropical eosinophilia, bronchial asthma, allergy, parasitic disease, skin disease, blood disease, allergic disease and chronic myeloid leukemia, as well as after surgery, burns, etc. Eosinophilia occurs in typhoid fever, paratyphoid fever, and after administration of corticosteroids.

3. Alkaliphilic granulocytosis is less common in chronic myeloid leukemia, Hodgkin's disease, cancer metastasis, lead and bismuth poisoning, etc. Alkali neutropenia is of no significance.

Cell percentage, MID refers to intermediate cells, including monocytes, eosinophils and alkaliphils. This result is the result of a three-category blood cell analyzer. Although 9.2% is high, it should be combined with clinical manifestations to see whether there is a viral infection.

Definition of Intermediate Cell Population Percentage

The percentage of intermediate cell population refers to the percentage of eosinophils, alkaliphils and monocytes in white blood cells. This is a relative number. The intermediate cell count refers to the absolute number of the three types of cells. If the absolute number is low, the relative number will also be correspondingly low.

Normal value of intermediate cells (MID):

3.5%~15%.

Note: The reference values of different hospitals may be different.

Clinical significance of intermediate cells (MID):

Reduction: Little clinical significance.

Elevated: See the clinical significance of eosinophil, alkaliphil and monocyte tests.
