Symptoms of dopamine deficiency

Symptoms of dopamine deficiency

Dopamine is a neurotransmitter of tyrosine, which is a relatively important substance in the body. It plays a very important role in the body's internal organs and endocrine system. It can mainly balance people's emotions. If dopamine is reduced, the impact is relatively large. For example, for men, it will lead to testosterone deficiency and sexual dysfunction, and for women, it is easy to cause night sweats, hot flashes, mood swings, etc.

Symptoms of dopamine deficiency

male

Low dopamine levels in men can cause symptoms similar to those of testosterone deficiency. Changes usually occur both physically and sexually. For example, low dopamine often reduces a man's bone density, libido, strength, and muscle mass. Additionally, low dopamine levels can lead to increased cholesterol and body fat in men.

female

Low dopamine levels in women can cause symptoms that are very similar to those associated with estrogen deficiency. For example, dopamine tends to heighten the negative effects of menopause. This includes hot flashes, night sweats, sleep disturbances, and mood swings.

Reduce excitement

Dopamine acts like a stimulant hormone, which means it plays an important role in feelings of pleasure, excitement, and reward. This is why low dopamine levels often reduce sexual desire. Dopamine insufficiency can also hinder feelings of pleasure or excitement related to motor function, cravings, urges, and satisfaction. Conversely, a sudden increase in dopamine can make people anxious or extremely active.

Parkinson's disease

Perhaps the most serious symptom of low dopamine levels is an increased risk of developing Parkinson's disease. Symptoms of the disease include difficulty walking, stiffness in movement, impaired balance, trouble swallowing or chewing, and muscle pain. Parkinson's disease is characterized by tremors on one side of the body (especially the hand). Although the disease is not fatal, it is incurable and gradually worsens.

ADHD

Low dopamine levels may also be linked to attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in children. This is why doctors often recommend that children with ADHD take Ritalin to boost dopamine levels in the brain.
