Why does my chest hurt when I run?

Running is a very common way for people to exercise. When running, people can exercise the muscles of their entire body to enhance their body coordination ability. Running is originally an activity for physical exercise, however, some people will experience chest pain while running. People should not take this situation lightly and need to understand it. Here we will explain why the chest hurts when running.

There are many reasons for chest pain, such as tension muscle pain, reflux esophagitis, costochondritis, pleurisy, etc. "When you have chest pain, you should go to the hospital for treatment so that the cause can be found and appropriate treatment can be given as soon as possible.

Chest pain while running may be due to the exercise causing faster breathing, which leads to a strong expansion of the chest and abdominal muscles. Exercise more often and don't worry too much. Your body muscles are changing. Exercise will speed up blood circulation, and your chest muscles and cardiopulmonary function are also being exercised at the same time.

It may also be neuralgia, commonly known as stitch in the side. When you get a stitch in the side, the respiratory muscles spasm, stimulating the receptors in the respiratory muscles and causing pain. It may also be myocardial ischemia. It is best to do a dynamic electrocardiogram check. Oral medications such as Xiao Xin Tong and Compound Danshen Drops can be used for treatment. If you have high blood pressure, you need to actively control your blood pressure and blood viscosity to prevent and treat the disease.

However, although you may feel uncomfortable while running, when you go to the hospital for a check-up, the results of cardiopulmonary function tests often show no problems. However, it is very likely that you have exercise-related heart failure, which is difficult to detect in a quiet state, and you need to do an exercise test for further screening. What is exercise testing?

Common exercise tests include the field test, treadmill test, ergometer test, and step test. The most accepted tests are the treadmill test and the step test.

Exercise treadmill test

At present, the most popular test is the exercise treadmill test. The so-called exercise treadmill test is to load the heart through exercise or other methods, increase cardiac oxygen consumption, induce myocardial ischemia, and assist clinical diagnosis of whether the myocardium is ischemic. This test method, which increases the heart load through exercise and induces myocardial ischemia, thereby causing ischemic electrocardiogram changes, is called an electrocardiogram exercise test. Currently, the most commonly used test is the exercise treadmill test. The advantage is that the changes in the electrocardiogram can be observed during exercise, and the amount of exercise can be gradually increased according to the expected goals.

Step test

I believe everyone is familiar with the step test. This is also the most widely used method of cardiopulmonary endurance test in physical fitness tests for students in my country. The step test is to jump on the steps with the left and right legs alternately to test the adaptation level of cardiopulmonary function. Its advantages are: it can be performed indoors, is suitable for people with different physical conditions, does not require expensive facilities, and can be completed in a very short time.
