Burn scar plastic surgery

Burn scar plastic surgery

Burns can cause great damage to the skin. If the burns are severe, the dermis of the skin will often be severely damaged, causing dehydration and carbonization of the skin. The scars formed are often more serious and more difficult to repair than other scars. Currently, the effect of plastic surgery for burn scars is very good, and there are many methods, such as laser treatment, surgical treatment, etc.

Burn scar plastic surgery

1. Laser scar removal

Currently, the best way to solve the scar problem is laser treatment. Laser treatment of burn scars is suitable for treating small hyperplastic and atrophic scars, such as scars after trauma or surgery, and depressed scars left after acne.

Regarding scar removal, since everyone's skin type is different, the reaction and adaptability to laser are also different. Therefore, it is a good idea to conduct a local trial first to see how the skin reacts. This will also allow patients to understand the recovery process after laser burn scar removal. If the effect is good, then a comprehensive treatment can be performed on the remaining spots.

Laser burn scar removal generally requires 2-6 treatments, which varies from person to person, and the interval between each treatment ranges from about 2-3 months.

2. Surgery to remove scars

Another method of treating scars is to use skin and soft tissue expansion to treat scars. It is generally divided into two stages. The first stage is to implant the expander under the skin or muscle. The size and shape of the expander are selected based on the patient's site to be repaired, the shape and scope of the lesion, and the size and shape of the normal skin that can be expanded. One or more expanders can be implanted in one operation.

After that, normal saline is regularly injected into the expansion pot, generally twice a week. After a series of injections and expansions, the skin and subcutaneous tissue on the surface are gradually expanded to obtain additional skin and subcutaneous tissue. In the second stage, the expander is removed, the scar or diseased tissue in the area to be repaired is removed, and then the "extra" skin and soft tissue from the expansion is reasonably transferred to the scar area to be repaired. The whole process is completed after plastic surgery and suture surgery. Using skin and soft tissue expansion to treat scars will not cause scars or deformities in the donor area, and the texture and color of the repaired tissue are close to those of the surrounding tissues. It is currently an ideal method for scar repair.
