Excessive sweating under the arms without odor

Excessive sweating under the arms without odor

Many people have excessive sweating under their armpits but no odor. The armpits have armpit hair, as well as abundant sweat glands and sebaceous glands, so it is easy for bacteria to be produced, resulting in odor. This is the so-called body odor. The armpit area should be cleaned frequently and underwear should be changed frequently. You should not smoke, drink, or eat spicy food. Let’s take a closer look at the situation of excessive sweating under the arms without odor.

There are two types of human sweat glands. One type is small and distributed throughout the body. Its main function is to sweat and regulate body temperature. The other type is larger, called apocrine glands, which are distributed in special areas such as the armpits and pubic area, with the most glands in the armpits. The fluid secreted by the apocrine glands is originally an odorless liquid, but when the fluid is decomposed by the bacteria retained in the armpits, it becomes a smelly liquid, commonly known as "body odor". Patients with excessive underarm sweating are prone to bacterial growth, and the odor is particularly strong, causing great trouble to their lives.

The basic principle of treatment is to keep the area clean and remove secretions to reduce bacterial growth; local use of antiperspirants and fragrances, regular scrubbing and application of medicine can temporarily relieve body odor. Permanent removal of the odor may require surgery.

The commonly used surgical treatment method is to remove the axillary apocrine glands. During the operation, one to two incisions of several centimeters are made on both sides of the armpits, and the sweat glands are directly removed. The wounds are then sutured. But because of this method, the wound is great.

The disadvantages are obvious scars and long recovery time.

In recent years, with the use of thoracoscopic sympathetic nerve surgery, more than 95% of patients have stopped sweating under their armpits, and the odor they had in the past has been significantly improved. Because thoracoscopic surgery is less invasive to the human body and the recovery time is very fast, it has gradually replaced the trend of traditional surgery.

If the armpits have body odor even though there is no sweat, and thoracoscopic sympathetic nerve surgery is not effective, it is recommended that you seek help from a plastic surgeon or general surgeon for traditional body odor surgery to remove the armpit apocrine glands.

Another new option - At present, some hospitals have improved the technology of removing the apocrine glands under the armpits. They use the technology of subcutaneous liposuction and use an electric rotating scraper to scrape the apocrine glands under the armpits. The wound of this operation can be only about one centimeter.

However, the wound care and recovery time is still long, and the electric rotary scraper underarm surgery costs about 10,000 yuan.

However, due to variations in the distribution of sympathetic nerves in the axilla of some people and limited surgical sites, the success rate of axillary hyperhidrosis surgery is reported to be around 90% in domestic and foreign reports (not as good as the almost 100% success rate for hyperhidrosis of the hands).

Note: Patients with excessive sweating and odor in their armpits often face embarrassment in social situations. Patients with body odor should keep their armpits clean or seek treatment. However, many people do not have real body odor, because in a room, other people cannot smell the odor, but if you touch your armpits with your hands and smell it, it is normal to have a little odor.
