What does diastolic pressure mean?

Diastolic blood pressure is a very important medical term for human health. High diastolic blood pressure is a clinical manifestation of increased cardiac load. If it continues for a long time, it will gradually develop into hypertensive heart disease. In addition, since the arteries are flushed by high-pressure blood flow for a long time, hardening is accelerated. People with high blood viscosity often have higher diastolic blood pressure. This is caused by the increase in vascular pressure due to slow blood flow.

1. What is diastolic blood pressure

Diastolic blood pressure is the pressure generated when the human heart relaxes and the elasticity of the arteries shrinks. It is called diastolic blood pressure, also known as low pressure. When the heart relaxes, the aortic pressure drops. At the end of diastole, the arterial blood pressure is at its lowest value, which is called diastolic pressure. The normal diastolic pressure for adults is <90 mmHg (12 kPa). The unit of blood pressure is kilopascal, 1 kilopascal = 7.6 mmHg. That is what people often say, 60 to 90.

2. Common Values

According to the World Health Organization, an adult's diastolic blood pressure can be diagnosed as hypertension when it is ≥95 mmHg (12.6 kPa). Those between 90mmHg and 95mmHg are called borderline hypertension. Many young and middle-aged people, due to work fatigue and high pressure, tend to be less active; their systolic blood pressure is normal, while the diastolic blood pressure is above 90 mmHg. Sometimes the pulse pressure difference is very close, such as 130/110 mmHg, and patients subjectively feel dizzy and chest tightness. This is due to increased sympathetic nerve activity and increased peripheral vascular resistance. It is the early stage of hypertension.

3. Treatment of Hypertension

Isolated diastolic hypertension cannot be ignored because as the course of the disease prolongs, isolated diastolic hypertension can turn into classic hypertension. It may even develop into isolated systolic hypertension. If not treated promptly, the prognosis will become worse as you age. Therefore, treatment should be carried out in the early stage, including drug and non-drug treatment. Non-drug treatment can be carried out in the early stage. Hypertension has a high diastolic pressure, which is a clinical problem. Patients with hypertension also have this experience: if the high blood pressure rises, most people can lower it. However, once the low blood pressure rises, it is difficult to lower it by taking medication. Therefore, timely treatment is very important.

3. Factors affecting low pressure

1. Changes in heart rate have a greater impact on low blood pressure. The heart rate increases, the diastole is shorter, and less blood flows to the periphery through the arterioles in a shorter period of time. Therefore, the amount of blood flowing in the aorta at the end of diastole increases, resulting in high low pressure.

2 When peripheral resistance increases, the flow of blood in the aorta to the peripheral blood vessels slows down, and the amount of blood retained in the aorta increases, so the diastolic pressure increases.
