Is curled big toe hereditary?

In today's life, many people often wear shoes that do not fit, such as high heels. In fact, it is very difficult to buy suitable shoes. Some are because of the wrong size, and some are because of design problems. Some people often wear incorrect shoes, which will cause their toes to begin to deform. The appearance of a curled big toe is generally not hereditary.

In daily life, we often see some people wearing high heels and then walking with a limp due to pain. This is the reason for the deformation of the toes. There is indeed such a disease in medicine, called bunion. Most patients have it inherited. At the same time, because of the squeezing of high heels, the toes are often easily deformed, so this is also a disease.

Deformity of the toes occurs when the big toe deviates excessively outward, beyond the normal angle. It is clinically known as hallux valgus deformity, also called hallux valgus, also called big toe bone. Judging from the causes of toe deformity, about 50% of patients with toe deformity have a family history of genetics. These people have shown big toe deformity since they were young, but they do not have any symptoms of pain or discomfort, so few people think that big toe deformity is a disease. However, long-term deformation causes patients to suffer from unbearable pain even when walking. This is a common disease in orthopedics. In fact, as long as the toe deformation exceeds the normal value, it is abnormal and can be considered a pathological condition.

Although it usually does not occur immediately, with increasing age, the passage of time, the loss of bone mass, and excessive fatigue at certain times, hidden big toe damage can be manifested. And for these patients with deformed toes, the degree of hallux valgus will become more and more serious, and serious complications will follow:

1. As the degree of toe deformation increases, the inversion of the first metatarsal bone becomes more and more serious, the first metatarsal head is squeezed and the friction is aggravated, the local bursa is thickened, and bone spurs proliferate to form a large bone crutch. The significantly wider forefoot makes it difficult for these patients with big feet to choose a pair of suitable and beautiful shoes; when the hot summer comes, they cannot wear sandals because they think their feet are not beautiful or even ugly.

2. Due to long-term friction between the big and second thumbs of patients with toe deformity, the soft tissue on the inner side of the first metatarsal head proliferates and hypertrophies, and local aseptic inflammation occurs, forming bursitis, which causes severe pain and affects walking.

3. Because the big toe deviates to the outside, the second toe is lifted up, and the other toes are squeezed from the outside of the shoe, causing the second toe of the patient with big toe to be deformed like a chicken claw. After the back of the toe is impacted, corns may be formed, which are most commonly seen on the back of the II and V toes. At the same time, due to the deformation of the toe, the metatarsal head is pressed down and sunken, which will form a foot pad on the sole of the metatarsal head. This condition is most common on the sole of the II metatarsal head. Corns and pads can cause severe pain and recur repeatedly, affecting normal daily work.

4. Because the forefoot of patients with big toes becomes wider and the transverse arch collapses, the foot will more or less turn outward when walking. This will cause the weight-bearing surface of the ankle joint to change, causing traumatic inflammation of the ankle joint, causing pain, and even affecting the knee joint, hip joint and even the waist. Because of the understanding of toe deformation, everyone should know whether timely treatment is needed.
