Side effects of deep sea fish oil, contraindications of taking fish oil

Deep-sea fish oil is recognized as one of the most beneficial products for health, but when people take deep-sea fish oil, they also need to know more about its possible side effects.

Side effects of fish oil:

For many people, taking no more than 3 grams of fish oil per day is safe and will not cause any side effects of deep-sea fish oil.

Taking too high a dose of deep-sea fish oil can make the blood less likely to clot and increase the risk of bleeding. Possible side effects of fish oil include belching, bad breath, heartburn, nausea, loose stools, rash and nosebleeds. Taking fish oil supplements with meals can often reduce the occurrence of these side effects.

Certain fish, especially shark, mackerel, and farmed salmon, may be contaminated with mercury and other chemicals. Therefore, when choosing fish oil supplements, you should choose fish oil products with high purity extracted from deep-sea pollution-free fish. Green sea fish or deep-sea fish ensure the lowest environmental pollution in the food chain and are relatively safer.

Contraindications of taking fish oil:

Experts believe that DHA contained in natural fish oil is an important element for the growth and maintenance of nervous system cells. Although the EPA component contained in fish oil also has the function of regulating blood lipids and softening blood vessels, it should be understood that fish themselves cannot synthesize DHA. It is because DHA accumulates in the body after eating algae containing DHA, so the purity is not high.

Merchants often exaggerate or even make false claims about the brain-boosting and intelligence-enhancing effects of fish oil. As environmental pollution becomes increasingly serious, heavy metal pollution such as mercury is easily left in fish oil, causing harm to the human body.

Other experts pointed out that since some fish contain mercury, and the presence of large amounts of mercury pollutants can damage the developing nervous systems of newborns and children, infants and young children should be cautious when consuming fish oil. Studies in the United States have shown that long-term and sufficient intake of DHA can increase children's IQ by 7% and vision by 0.2%.

Because deep-sea fish oil is rich in DHA, it has become a "supplement" prepared by some parents for their children. However, infants and young children lack the corresponding enzymes and cannot "detoxify" the mercury in deep-sea fish oil, so the effect after taking it may be counterproductive.
