How to tell boy from girl

For pregnant women, both she and her family members want to know whether the baby in her belly is a boy or a girl. But now if you go to the hospital for a check-up, most doctors will not tell pregnant women whether the baby in their belly is a boy or a girl. Therefore, pregnant women can only infer whether it is a boy or a girl based on some of their symptoms. So how should they calculate whether it is a boy or a girl?

How to predict whether it is a boy or a girl during pregnancy

1. If there is no morning sickness in the early stages of pregnancy (that is, the first three months of pregnancy), it is likely that a boy will be born. If there is severe morning sickness in the early stages of pregnancy, it is likely that a girl will be born.

2. If the fetal heart rate is less than 140 beats per minute, it is a boy; if the fetal heart rate is at least 140 beats per minute, it is a girl.

3. If the color of the areola becomes darker, it means a boy is born; otherwise, it means a girl is born.

4. If the bulging belly looks like a fully inflated, firm, round basketball, it means the baby is a boy. If the bulging belly looks like a big watermelon and its shape does not look as round as a ball, it means the baby is a girl.

In fact, the above statement does not have sufficient scientific basis. First of all, morning sickness is caused by the rapid increase in human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) levels in the early stages of pregnancy, which inhibits the secretion of gastric acid and reduces gastrointestinal motility, thereby affecting the appetite and digestive function of expectant mothers. Morning sickness can occur regardless of whether you are giving birth to a boy or a girl. The personal experiences of many pregnant women also show that the severity of morning sickness has nothing to do with the gender of the fetus.

Secondly, it is not reliable to use the baby's fetal heart rate to determine the baby's gender. This statement is just based on what we call "common sense", that is, for adults, men's heart rate is generally lower than women's heart rate. The heart rate of baby girls is higher than that of baby boys, but this is only the case when they are just born. When they are still fetuses, there is no difference in the heart rate of male and female fetuses.

In addition, the saying that "black nipples indicate a boy" is not credible. Nipple color is not determined by the sex of the fetus. After pregnancy, the progesterone in the expectant mother's body will stimulate the increase in hormone levels in melanocytes, causing certain originally dark parts of the body surface to become darker. So if you are pregnant with a girl, your areola will also turn darker. And due to the secretion of progesterone, the breasts of pregnant women will increase to varying degrees, regardless of the gender of the fetus.

Although the practice of determining the gender of the fetus by the pointiness or roundness of the belly is widely spread, it is not accurate. Because everyone's body shape is different, the amount of fat is different, and the pelvic shape will also be different. Relatively speaking, the belly of a fat person will look rounder during pregnancy. On the contrary, the belly of a thin mother will be pointed. In fact, this is related to the pregnant woman's pelvis. If the pelvis is wide, the fetal head will enter the pelvis and the belly will be lower; if the pelvic entrance is small, the fetal head will float high and the belly will be high.

What are the methods for pregnant women to know whether they will give birth to a boy or a girl?

1. B-ultrasound examination: B-ultrasound testing of fetal gender is generally more accurate. Ultrasound diagnosis of fetal sex is mainly based on whether the testicles have descended into the scrotum. If it is a female, then relatively speaking, this is called the ovary, and the ovary itself is located in the abdominal cavity. Therefore, if the B-ultrasound does not show descended testicles, the report will say that the fetus is a female.

The key points in ultrasound examination to determine the gender of the baby are the "three lines" and the "protruding things". If you find a bulge in the ultrasound photo that looks a bit like a fungus, it means the baby is a boy. If you see three lines, the possibility that the baby is a girl is very high.

2. Fetal heart rate check: This method of identifying the sex of the fetus based on fetal movement has been scientifically proven to be unreliable. If the fetal heart rate is less than 140 beats/minute, it is a boy; if it is higher than 140 beats/minute, it is a girl. Girls have a higher heart rate than boys, but this is only true when they are just born. There is no difference in the fetal heart rate between boys and girls.

The speed of heart rate only varies with gestational age. At about 5 weeks of pregnancy, the fetus' heart rate is close to the mother's heart rate, which is 80 to 85 beats per minute. Then during the 9th week of pregnancy, the heart rate gradually increases to 170~200 beats/minute, and then gradually slows down to 120~160 beats/minute during the second trimester. Therefore, this kind of examination may not be accurate in determining the gender of the baby.
