Bone marrow puncture for anemia

Bone marrow puncture for anemia

The symptom of anemia mainly occurs in female friends, so female friends need to eat more blood-enriching foods, such as red dates, wolfberries, and donkey-hide gelatin. Bone marrow puncture is to check the hematopoietic regeneration ability of the bone marrow, because the bone marrow is the main organ for hematopoiesis. If the bone marrow hematopoietic ability is abnormal, it will cause anemia. However, bone marrow puncture requires everyone to make preparations before the operation.

Why do you need a bone marrow biopsy for anemia?

Cytological examination of bone marrow smears can help us understand the generation of various cells in the bone marrow, changes in the morphology and composition of various cells, and detect abnormal cells, so as to make a clear diagnosis, observe the therapeutic effect, and estimate the prognosis. The bone marrow is the main organ for hematopoiesis. The root causes of many blood diseases originate from the bone marrow. After suffering from blood diseases, the hematopoietic cells in the bone marrow often change. Therefore, extracting a small amount of bone marrow to analyze the hematopoietic cells in it, combined with clinical practice, can often make a positive diagnosis of some blood diseases or support the clinical diagnosis. Diseases that can be diagnosed with certainty include: various types of leukemia, multiple myelopathy, Gaucher disease, Niemann-Pick disease, metastatic cancer, and certain primary infectious diseases. Diseases that are consistent with the diagnosis include: iron deficiency anemia, aplastic anemia, thrombocytopenic purpura, etc. If certain changes are found in bone marrow examination but cannot provide support or negative opinion for clinical diagnosis, it can be used as a reference for further examination. During the treatment of blood diseases, bone marrow examination is often performed to analyze the efficacy of the treatment.

Why do we need to draw bone marrow for anemia?

When elderly patients develop anemia, bone marrow extraction can determine whether they have bone marrow hematopoietic disorders, rule out most blood diseases, and is very helpful in determining the cause of anemia.
