Why does a breastfeeding mother have chest pain?

Why does a breastfeeding mother have chest pain?

Chest pain during breastfeeding is mainly caused by incorrect breastfeeding posture, or it may be caused by the nipple being bitten by the baby. Therefore, mothers should adjust their breastfeeding posture to avoid the baby biting the nipple. When a breastfeeding mother experiences chest pain, she should switch to the other side for breastfeeding and pay attention to wound treatment and skin hygiene.

Chest pain during breastfeeding is caused by the baby biting the baby while drinking milk or there is too much milk and the baby fails to suck it out in time, resulting in milk accumulation. When encountering such a situation, you should pay attention to the breastfeeding posture. If there is too much milk and the baby cannot finish it, you can squeeze out some of it.

What to do if your breasts hurt during lactation

1. Find a good posture before feeding your baby. You can apply a warm towel to the breasts for a while and then massage them. When the breasts are stimulated, the milk will come out easily. Then squeeze out some milk, the areola will become soft, which is also conducive to the baby's sucking.

2. If your breast hurts, you can switch sides and feed the side that hurts less first. Put both the nipple and areola in the baby's mouth. This will reduce stimulation and the baby will not have to work too hard to drink milk.

3. If your nipple is bitten by the baby, you can squeeze some milk onto the nipple. The milk contains oil, which can effectively protect the nipple. Also remember not to suddenly interrupt or pull out the nipple when the baby is feeding, as this can easily hurt the nipple.

4. Mothers with a lot of milk may easily experience chest pain due to milk accumulation. When encountering this situation, they must squeeze out some milk in time until the breasts are soft. Don’t think it’s a waste to squeeze it out. If milk is engorged for a long time, it can easily cause mastitis.
