Normal blood pressure range

Normal blood pressure range

What is the range of normal blood pressure? Many people want to observe changes in blood pressure at home, so they want to know that blood pressure is divided into systolic pressure, which is often called high pressure, and diastolic pressure, which is often called low pressure. The two values presented separately are the blood pressure values you need. The range of blood pressure has strict numerical regulations. Let's take a closer look.

If you measure your blood pressure at home, there are many things you need to pay attention to if you want to get a more accurate value. First of all, you need to maintain a correct sitting or sleeping position in a calm state when measuring your blood pressure. If you have just finished exercising, you need to rest for about fifteen minutes before measuring it for accuracy. In addition, many factors can affect blood pressure values, such as talking, smoking, drinking, drinking tea, emotions, etc. Let's learn about them in detail below.

1Reference value

Ideal blood pressure: systolic pressure <12 0mmHg and diastolic pressure <80mmHg.

Normal blood pressure: systolic pressure should be <130mmHg and diastolic pressure should be <85mmHg.

Upper limit of normal blood pressure or pre-hypertension: systolic blood pressure is 130~139mmHg and/or diastolic blood pressure is 85~89mmHg.

Hypertension: systolic blood pressure ≥140 mmHg and/or diastolic blood pressure ≥90 mmHg.

Hypotension: Systolic blood pressure ≤90 mmHg and/or diastolic blood pressure ≤60 mmHg.

Borderline hypertension: systolic blood pressure is 140-160 mmHg (18.6-21.3 kPa), and diastolic blood pressure is 90-95 mmHg (12.0-12.6 kPa).

Measurement method

(1) The brachial artery of the right upper arm should always be measured; the left upper arm should be measured only when there is an abnormality in the right arm (such as disability, paralysis, etc.). This is because the blood pressure values on the left and right upper arms of a normal person are different. Due to the different anatomical positions of blood vessels, the pressure of blood flow on the blood vessel wall in the right blood vessels is greater than that on the left side, so the blood pressure on the right side is generally higher than that on the left side. The difference between the two can reach 10 to 20/10 mmHg, and the difference between the blood pressure values on both sides of patients with hypertension may be greater than that of normal people.

(2) Blood pressure is measured in the sitting position. When measuring, the upper arm should not be compressed by tight sleeves, the palm should face upward without clenching into a fist, and the height of the arm should be equal to the height of the heart.

(3) Keep calm before measurement. Sit quietly and rest for 15 minutes. Don't think about something nervously, or repeatedly speculate about your blood pressure, or feel anxious. Especially for patients who are measuring their blood pressure for the first time, there is no need to panic (the arm will feel slightly numb during measurement, but there is no pain), otherwise it will affect the blood pressure.

(4) If a person’s blood pressure is measured for the first time and the measured blood pressure value is very high, he should be allowed to rest for 1 hour before measuring again. Each time you measure blood pressure, you must measure it twice. If the difference between two diastolic blood pressures is more than 4 mm Hg, the measurement should be continued until the difference between two consecutive diastolic blood pressures is within 4 mm Hg. And take the average value.

Everyone is familiar with the range and measurement methods of normal blood pressure. If your blood pressure is unstable and needs to be observed at home, you can try it yourself according to the above method. However, it is best to have someone else measure your blood pressure. Measuring it yourself will also affect the value.
