How to treat allergic conjunctivitis

Allergic conjunctivitis is an eye disease, most of which is caused by external infection. Friends with allergies need to pay special attention. It is more likely to occur in spring and when seasons change. Pollen, dust, and fungi in the air can cause allergic conjunctivitis. Friends who keep small animals such as cats and dogs at home also need to pay special attention, as animal dandruff can easily lead to allergic conjunctivitis.

The main symptom of allergic conjunctivitis is itchy eyes, which are sometimes unbearable. There are also symptoms such as tearing and excessive secretions. During the onset of allergic conjunctivitis, you must pay attention to the hygiene around the eyes. It is best to use towels and other things that touch the eyes separately to avoid cross infection. In addition, towels should be disinfected frequently to be safer and conducive to recovery.

Allergic conjunctivitis is mainly divided into 4 types: allergic conjunctivitis (including seasonal, perennial, and contact), giant papillary conjunctivitis, vernal keratoconjunctivitis, and atopic keratoconjunctivitis.

The main goal of treatment is to relieve symptoms and avoid sequelae. Avoiding allergens is the most effective treatment method. You should try to avoid contact with possible allergens, such as paying attention to bed hygiene, avoiding contact with pollen, stopping wearing contact lenses, and keeping the indoor air circulating. In addition to oral anti-inflammatory drugs, topical antihistamine eye drops can achieve relatively satisfactory results. The mast cell stabilizer - sodium cromoglycate eye drops (such as Xinrunqing) can both treat and prevent allergic conjunctivitis and is also a commonly used drug. Glucocorticoids are usually used only when other drugs are ineffective. Because of their significant side effects, they should be used with caution under the guidance of a doctor. In addition, there are desensitization treatment, surgical treatment, etc.

Allergic conjunctivitis is caused by an allergic reaction when the conjunctival mucosa of the eye comes into contact with specific allergens. Allergens are substances that can cause allergies, medically called allergens. These allergens enter the eyes and bind to immunoglobulin E (IgE) on the mast cells in the conjunctiva, causing the mast cells to release histamine, which causes local small blood vessels to dilate, resulting in symptoms of redness, swelling, and itching. Allergens include pollen, dust, cold and damp air, dust mites, animal hair, soap, perfume, cosmetics, medicines, contact lenses and their care solutions, etc. Because people's individual physical constitutions vary greatly, different people have different allergens. The most common allergic substance that causes allergic conjunctivitis is plant pollen, and the symptoms of this allergic conjunctivitis often change seasonally. If the allergens are dust, dust mites or animal hair, etc., because these allergens exist all year round, the symptoms of allergies are also continuous throughout the year. The symptoms are mild, but they may also worsen with different seasons.

At present, Western medicine mainly uses oral and topical lutein products to treat allergic conjunctivitis, and clinical evidence shows that the effect is obvious. There are also several treatment options:

1. Instrument treatment: It often violates the natural law of skin metabolism and forcibly eliminates skin allergies. It causes damage to the stratum corneum of the skin, and may even cause the stratum corneum to shrink, which is prone to pigmentation and recurrence.

2. Treatment with Chinese medicine: Chinese medicine is toxic to some extent. The efficacy of Chinese medicine is diverse, and the effective active ingredients cannot be accurately defined. In the absence of modern bioengineering technology, some Chinese medicine ingredients can also cause allergies.

3. Topical cosmetics: They can only improve skin allergy symptoms from the surface of the skin, with very limited targeting, and only treat the symptoms but not the root cause. Some external products may contain irritating ingredients, hormones, harmful chemicals, and direct contact with the skin may damage the skin.

The main symptom of allergic conjunctivitis is extreme itching of the eyes. Unlike ordinary itching, this itching sensation is often very strong and unbearable, so it is medically called extreme itching. In addition, there are symptoms of conjunctival congestion and edema, mucous secretions, and often accompanied by redness and swelling of the eyelid skin. These symptoms can come and go during the allergy season, depending on the climate and the patient's activities. Generally, symptoms are worse on warm, dry days. In addition to eye discomfort, some patients may also experience nasal allergy symptoms, which is also clinically known as allergic rhinitis and conjunctivitis.

Everyone knows how to treat allergic conjunctivitis. Patients must pay attention to their diet during treatment, try not to eat spicy and irritating foods, eat more light foods, and also be sure not to rub your eyes with your hands. There are many invisible bacteria on your hands, and frequent rubbing of your eyes will aggravate the development of the disease.
