How to Treat Diarrhea Quickly

How to Treat Diarrhea Quickly

Diarrhea is a common clinical symptom, which is caused by many diseases. In normal people, the amount of feces excreted once a day is about 200 to 400 kilograms. However, the symptoms of diarrhea are also relatively common, mainly increased frequency of bowel movements. At the same time, the increase in the number of bowel movements is mainly a form of acute diarrhea and chronic diarrhea. It mainly involves some gastrointestinal symptoms and an increase in the frequency of diarrhea.

The accompanying symptoms are mainly some mechanical diarrhea and some other types of diarrhea. The causes of diarrhea are very complicated. Patients with diarrhea should promptly understand some of the characteristics of diarrhea and the accompanying symptoms, and must receive timely treatment in daily life.

Because the causes of diarrhea are very complex, patients with diarrhea should determine the type of diarrhea as early as possible based on the characteristics of their diarrhea and accompanying symptoms, that is, whether the patient has secretory diarrhea, hyperosmotic diarrhea, malabsorption diarrhea, or gastrointestinal motility dysfunction diarrhea; secondly, it should also be determined whether the patient has acute diarrhea or chronic diarrhea, which is crucial for guiding treatment. The following principles should be followed in treatment.

1. If the diarrhea is judged to be secretory diarrhea, the cause of the secretory diarrhea should be found as soon as possible, and antidiarrheal drugs such as diphenoxylate (phenoxylate) and loperamide should not be used blindly, otherwise it will aggravate the condition.

2. If diarrhea is judged to be caused by absorption dysfunction due to poor liver, bile duct or pancreatic function, in addition to actively treating the primary disease, appropriate supplementation of complex enzyme preparations can be carried out, commonly used ones include pancreatic enzymes (Demeitong), compound pancreatic enzyme tablets 4340 (Combisen), etc., to increase the absorption of protein, fat and carbohydrates, and can also supplement with a variety of vitamins and trace elements.

3. If diarrhea is suspected to be caused by endocrine diseases, when the frequency and amount of diarrhea are large, while actively looking for the cause, intravenous high-nutrition therapy should be given to supplement human serum albumin, amino acids, fat emulsion, vitamins and electrolytes.

4. If after multiple examinations it has been determined that the diarrhea is caused by inflammatory bowel disease (ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease), the patient should be treated with sulfasalazine (SASP) or 5-aminosalicylic acid preparations. For severe cases, combined treatment with drugs such as prednisone, hydrocortisone, dexamethasone or prednisolone can be used.

5. If multiple organic diseases of the intestine are ruled out through multiple examinations, it can be considered that the patient's diarrhea is caused by intestinal motility dysfunction. If the patient has mental and psychological disorders, abdominal pain or discomfort disappears or is relieved after defecation, there is no pus, blood or parasites in the stool, culture is negative for multiple times, colonoscopy is normal, and the patient is in general good condition without anemia or weight loss, then he can be diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome (Rome II criteria). Intestinal smooth muscle calcium ion antagonists such as pinaverium bromide (dicetel) can be used to relieve intestinal spasm and restore intestinal function. In addition, hexagonal montmorillonite (Smectite) can also be used to protect the intestinal mucosa and reduce the frequency of diarrhea. Drugs that restore intestinal flora can also be used. For a small number of people who have excessive diarrhea, antidiarrheal agents such as loperamide hydrochloride (trade name: Imodium) may be used as appropriate.

The above is how to treat diarrhea. Eat less spicy or fried food, eat more fruits and vegetables, foods that are easy to digest and absorb, and it is also very important for supplementing calories and nutrients. Therefore, in daily life, you must distinguish the cause before treating diarrhea.
