Electric suction pump

Electric suction pump

In the respiratory department, suction is very common. In the past, when there were no suction machines, patients had to do it manually, which was not only laborious but also very painful for patients. However, with the development of science, there is now a new method of suctioning, which is to use an electric suction device, which can effectively help patients reduce the pain during suctioning.

However, because the electric suction machine is a new type of medical machine, many medical practitioners may not have mastered its specific use. If this is the case, the role and function of the electric suction machine cannot be fully utilized. Then, the specific operation method of the electric suction machine is as follows:

(1) Check whether the connections of the suction device are complete and whether there is any leakage. Connect the power supply, turn on the switch, check the performance of the suction device, and adjust the negative pressure. Generally, the negative pressure of suction for adults is about 40-50kPa, and that for children is about 13-30kPa. Place the suction tube in water, test the suction force, and flush the tube.

(2) Turn the patient's head toward the nurse and place a treatment towel under the chin.

(3) Insert the suction tube and suction from the oral vestibule to the cheek and then to the pharynx until all parts are completely suctioned. If oral suction is difficult, it can be inserted into the nasal cavity (not suitable for patients with skull base fracture). The order is from nasal vestibule → inferior nasal meatus → choanae → pharynx → trachea (about 20-25cm), and the secretions are sucked out section by section. If there is a tracheal intubation or tracheotomy, the sputum can be sucked out by inserting a tube into the intubation tube or cannula. For comatose patients, you can use a tongue depressor or a tongue opener to open their mouth first, and then perform suction.

(4) Suction the trachea. When the patient inhales, quickly insert the catheter, withdraw it from bottom to top and rotate it left and right to eliminate airway secretions. Pay attention to the patient's breathing. During the suction process, if the patient coughs violently, you should wait for a while before suctioning again. And flush the suction tube at any time to prevent sputum blockage.

(5) After suction, turn off the suction device, discard the suction catheter into the small bucket, insert the glass joint of the suction hose into the bottle of disinfectant on the bed rail for later use, and wipe the area around the patient's mouth. Observe the amount, color and properties of the aspirated fluid and keep records if necessary.

Now that you know how to operate an electric suction device, there are still some things you need to pay attention to when operating it. For example, you need to pay attention to whether the voltage is appropriate, be gentle when suctioning, and each suction time should not exceed 15 seconds to avoid excessive pain for the patient. At the same time, you should pay attention to routine maintenance of the machine to extend its use time.
