Toenails become thick and yellow

Toenails become thick and yellow

In our lives, many friends do not pay much attention to toenails. Generally, if the toenails are not long, they will not be trimmed. In fact, these habits can easily lead to problems with toenails. The most common one is thickening and yellowing of toenails. Many friends do not know what causes their toenails to become thicker and yellower, nor do they know how to deal with it.

In fact, the thickening and yellowing of toenails is generally caused by fungal infection. It may also be caused by onychomycosis, which may also cause the toenails to become thicker and yellow. The color of the toenails will be different depending on the infected fungus.

Different fungi can cause different color changes, such as yellow, black, etc., which cover the color of the nail bed. Fingernails can also develop fungal infections. To prevent and treat such nails, first wipe your hands or feet clean after washing them, trim the nails, and then apply 35% glacial acetic acid solution once a day for at least 3 months, and they will generally be cured.

This may be a manifestation of onychomycosis, which is related to fungal infection. Onychomycosis generally manifests itself in two types. One manifestation is white nails, which often starts from the root of the nail. Small white spots appear on the surface of the nail plate and gradually expand, causing the nail plate to soften and sink. Another type of damage starts from the free edge and side wall of the nail, causing small depressions or transverse grooves on the nail plate, and gradually develops until the nail plate becomes brittle, easy to break, thickened, and brown inside. The accumulation of debris under the nail often causes the nail to become hollow, lift up and separate from the nail bed, and the surface of the nail plate to be uneven, rough and dull. Scrape off the broken nails and subungual debris, and fungal hyphae can be seen under the microscope. Fungal culture was positive. It can be diagnosed and the treatment is mainly with antifungal drugs.

Now that you know why toenails become thick and yellow, I hope you can pay attention to it. This situation is most likely to occur in the spring every year, especially for people who do not trim their toenails frequently. To avoid fungal infections in your toenails, please pay attention to the hygiene of your toenails.
