Stuffy nose

Stuffy nose

With the continuous improvement of modernization, people's quality of life is also constantly improving, and people's pace of life is also constantly accelerating. It is precisely because of this situation that people know more and more things, so people do more things, and this kind of nasal congestion is one of them, and the current medical technology is also relatively developed. This is also more in line with everyone's requirements.

As for this kind of nasal congestion, there are actually many solutions in society, so people have many choices. The following is some information about this kind of nasal congestion, and I hope everyone can make good use of it.

1. Nose shape

The so-called deformity means that the shape is different from that of normal people. Nasal nasal congenital shape can be divided into two categories: congenital and acquired. Congenital means it is brought from the mother's womb, that is, it is present at birth. For example, congenital anterior nasal atresia or posterior nasal atresia is caused by abnormal development during the fetal period, resulting in the absence of nostrils, a smaller nose, and a flat and low nose tip. If the back of the nasal cavity is blocked by excess bone plates or mucous membranes, the nasal cavity and the nasopharyngeal cavity will be completely separated, and the nose will naturally be unable to breathe, forcing the person to breathe through the mouth. This disease usually occurs on one side in adults, and the posterior nasal atresia is only discovered during a doctor's examination. Regardless of whether it is congenital bilateral anterior nasal atresia or posterior nasal atresia, the child will not be able to suckle normally after birth. If the parents do not have medical knowledge in this area, the fetus will often starve to death, or choke on milk entering the trachea, causing suffocation; or die from aspiration pneumonia. Only if we think of it in time and open the atresia decisively, or perform a tracheotomy first, can the child survive and grow up.

As for the acquired anterior and posterior nasal atresia, it is often related to the sequelae of death or facial burns, nasal tuberculous ulcers, nasal lupus, nasal scleroderma, syphilitic granuloma or local scar contraction after radiotherapy of nasopharyngeal and nasal malignant tumors, and it mostly occurs bilaterally.

Regardless of whether it is congenital or acquired, the anterior and posterior nasal atresia, nasal congestion, nasal speech, difficulty swallowing water and food, etc., bring great pain to the patient. This disease can be treated with plastic surgery with satisfactory results.

2. Proliferative body hypertrophy

Adenoids, also known as proliferative bodies, are a group of lymphoid tissue that grow at the top of the nasopharynx. Under normal circumstances, it protects the body from bacteria invading the respiratory tract. If it grows excessively, it will block the posterior nostril, causing poor ventilation and breathing obstruction. This disease is more common in children and rare in adults. The patient's face lacks expression and appears demented, with the so-called "adenoid facies". The patient breathes with his mouth open and snores while sleeping.

3 Various rhinitis and sinusitis

Rhinitis and sinusitis can cause swelling or hypertrophy of the nasal mucosa, especially the swelling and hypertrophy of the middle and inferior turbinate, which can stick to the nasal septum. Moreover, due to the increased viscosity of the nasal mucus, or due to the accumulation of nasal mucus in the nasal cavity, the nasal cavity can be blocked and affect breathing.

4 Allergic diseases of the nose

Allergic reaction refers to the abnormal change in the human body's response to certain external substances, resulting in excessive sensitivity. The so-called allergic reaction belongs to this type of disease. Allergic diseases of the nose are caused by the stimulation of cold or hot wind, or the inhalation of dust, mold spores, pollen, cereal powder and some special smells, which cause allergies in the respiratory mucosa and temporary edema. It manifests itself in the nose, where the nasal mucosa becomes pale and swollen, especially the inferior turbinate, which becomes swollen and enlarged, blocking the nasal cavity. When this disease occurs, it is also accompanied by symptoms such as runny nose and sneezing. The patient thought he had suddenly caught a cold again, but in fact it was an allergic reaction. Colds are caused by viruses, and the nasal mucosa becomes red, swollen and congested, making them very easy to identify.

5. Foreign bodies in the nasal cavity

Children are curious and naughty, and often put beans, peanuts, melon seeds, stones, bottle corks or paper rolls into their nasal cavity. These foreign objects can not only directly block the nasal cavity, but over time, the nasal mucosa will also swell due to the irritation, and sticky or foul-smelling purulent nasal discharge will occur, which further increases the degree of nasal blockage.

6. Deviated nasal septum

As mentioned earlier, there is a nasal septum in the middle of the nasal cavity that divides it into two, just like a partition in the middle of a large house. It is rare to see a nasal septum clinically that is as straight as a wall. Most nasal septa are either curved to the left or to the right, or in an "S" shape, deviating to both the left and the right. Mild deviation or curvature is often not noticeable to the patient; severe curvature may cause compensatory hypertrophy of the inferior turbinate and result in bilateral nasal obstruction.

7Nasal polyps or polypoid changes

The appearance of nasal polyps is very similar to a tumor in the nose. Some are dark red, some are light red, and some are translucent. Histocytological examination has shown that it is not a true tumor, but rather extreme edema and hypertrophy of the nasal cavity and sinus membranes caused by chronic inflammatory stimulation or allergic reactions, which are often multiple. Those with stalks and shapes like grapes are called polyps. When it occurs in the middle and inferior nasal conchae, with a broad base and no pedicle, it is called polypoid change. The two have the same lesions, the formation and causes of nasal polyps, but the names are different. Nose flesh can occur on one side or on both sides. If there are many polyps, they can extend to the anterior and posterior nostrils and put pressure on them, causing the nose to swell and widen in appearance, so that the patient can only breathe with his mouth open.

8Nasal tumors

A tumor in the nose, whether benign or malignant, can gradually block the nasal cavity and cause nasal congestion. As the tumor continues to grow, no matter it occurs first on the left or right side, if not treated in time, benign tumors can compress the septum and cause bilateral blockage. For example, common nasal or nasopharyngeal angiofibroma often occurs during adolescence and often causes bilateral nasal congestion. If a malignant tumor grows in the nose, it will not only cause headaches and nose ulcers, but the nasal cavity will also be blocked due to the continuous expansion of the tumor itself. This malignant tumor can destroy the surrounding normal tissue structure, easily causing it to necrotize or ulcerate, thereby increasing nasal secretions. These factors lead to the acceleration and aggravation of nasal congestion.

9 Paranasal sinus tumors

Nasal congestion is also a common symptom of sinus tumors. A blocked nose, especially one side that is getting more and more blocked, is due to the continuous expansion of the tumor in the paranasal sinus. For example, a tumor in the ethmoid sinus or superior nasal sinus can compress the side wall of the nasal cavity, causing it to shift and gradually approach the septum, causing the nasal cavity to become narrower. If you do not pay attention during the examination, and do not notice the fullness of the nasal passages and the inward protrusion of the nasal side walls, but instead think that there are no neoplasms in the nasal cavity, it is often easy to miss the diagnosis. Of course, the determination of whether there is a paranasal sinus tumor should also be based on other symptoms, such as numbness of the teeth, nose ulcer, headache, cheek, hard hip or protruding eyeball, etc., and should also be confirmed by X-ray.

10 Atrophic rhinitis

There are many types of rhinitis, and most rhinitis is caused by swelling and hypertrophy. In contrast, atrophic rhinitis can cause the mucosa in the nasal cavity to become thinner and drier, and the nasal conchae to shrink and shrink, or even disappear. In this way, the nasal cavity appears spacious and can directly connect to the nasopharynx. Then why do patients still complain of nasal congestion? This is because the secretions in the nasal cavity are very thick, often forming pus and causing blockage. However, some patients still feel nasal congestion even after they have cleared all the mucus and pus. That is because the nerve sensation in the nasal cavity fails, and the nose feels blocked despite the lack of airflow. This type of nasal congestion is medically known as "pseudo-nasal obstruction".

Through the above understanding and introduction, I believe everyone can have a certain understanding of this kind of nasal congestion. At the same time, I also hope that everyone can be helped by the above knowledge. At the same time, I also hope that everyone can do more exercises suitable for themselves in daily life, and also develop a habit of going to bed early and getting up early.
