Short-acting contraceptive pills

Short-acting contraceptive pills

China implements a family planning policy, so when Chinese people become pregnant must be planned. And generally each family can only have one child. The reproductive period of women lasts for more than thirty years. During this long reproductive period, contraceptive measures must be taken. There are many methods of contraception, such as oral contraceptives, IUDs, condoms, etc. Taking birth control pills is a contraceptive method preferred by many women.

There are two types of contraceptive pills: short-acting contraceptive pills and emergency contraceptive pills. The ones that people usually take are generally short-acting contraceptives, and the other is for emergency contraception, which is a remedy when other contraceptive measures fail. Many women want to know how short-acting contraceptives work.

Short-acting oral contraceptives are a combination drug made of estrogen and progesterone. They achieve the purpose of contraception by inhibiting ovulation, changing the endometrial environment of the uterus, changing the properties of cervical mucus, preventing sperm penetration, and resisting implantation. The contraceptive effectiveness rate is over 99%, and it is a conventional contraceptive method suitable for healthy women of childbearing age. Short-acting oral contraceptives are divided into single-phase, bi-phase, and triphasic tablets. The main ingredients are estrogen and progesterone, and they are all taken in a complete cycle of 28 days. The dosage of each tablet of monophasic combined oral contraceptives is the same. Common monophasic oral contraceptives contain 21 tablets per box. Take 1 tablet per day for 21 consecutive days, then stop for 7 days and then take the next box. Biphasic tablets and triphasic tablets are also called multiphasic tablets. There are two dosage forms in one box of biphasic tablets, and there are three dosage forms in one box of triphasic tablets. They need to be taken in the order indicated on the package. The short-acting oral contraceptives on the market in my country are mainly single-phase tablets.

Although some short-acting oral contraceptives are over-the-counter drugs and can be purchased directly at pharmacies, the most suitable ingredients and dosages are different for each person's physical condition. Therefore, it is recommended that female friends take them under the guidance of professionals such as doctors or pharmacists, and develop the good habit of reading the drug instructions carefully.
