Traditional Chinese medicine teaches you how to judge whether menstruation is normal

Menstruation is one of the things that every woman must go through. Due to various reasons, menstrual disorders such as breast pain, abdominal pain, back pain, headache, etc. often occur. Severe cases can lead to menstrual disorders, dysmenorrhea, amenorrhea, etc. Traditional Chinese medicine teaches you how to judge whether such menstrual symptoms are normal.

1. Menstrual cycle

The average menstrual cycle for women is 28 to 30 days, but some people have their period every 40 days. But as long as there is regularity, it is normal. In addition, menstruation is easily affected by many factors, so it is normal to be 3 to 5 days earlier or later.

If this menstrual cycle is 20 days, and the next one is 40 days, and this happens frequently, and some women even have menstruation that comes every 1-2 days, and then comes again every 1-2 days after more than 10 days, losing the periodicity, this is considered irregular menstruation. When a girl reaches her first menstruation, her ovaries have just developed and their functions are not yet perfect, so they may experience functional disorders and irregularities. This is not a pathological phenomenon.

2. Menstrual period (also called menstrual period)

A woman's menstrual period lasts about 2 to 5 days. The general pattern of menstruation is that there is not much menstrual blood on the first day, but it increases on the second and third days, and then gradually decreases until the menstrual blood stops. This is because the endometrium just begins to shed on the first day, and on the second and third days, the shedding of the endometrium increases, the amount of bleeding also increases, the uterus is stimulated, the contraction increases, and a large amount of menstrual blood is discharged.

For some people, after their menstrual blood has stopped, it comes back a day or two later. This is commonly known as "menstrual bleeding comes back". This is not a disease but a normal phenomenon. However, some women's menstrual period lasts for 10 to 20 days, with continuous menstruation; some women's menstrual period is very short and passes in a flash. Both phenomena are abnormal.

3. Menstrual blood volume

The amount of menstrual flow varies from woman to woman, generally ranging from 20 to 100 ml. It is normal to change sanitary napkins or paper 3 to 5 times a day. If the amount of menstrual blood is too much, the sanitary napkin or paper will become wet again soon after changing it, or even flow down the legs, which is abnormal.

Excessive menstrual bleeding may be functional uterine bleeding caused by factors such as excessive mental stress, environmental changes, malnutrition, and metabolic disorders. Long-term excessive menstrual blood can cause anemia, and the cause should be identified and treated. Of course, if the menstrual volume is too small due to abnormalities of the uterus or ovaries or systemic diseases, this is also abnormal and you should seek medical attention in time.

Excessive menstrual flow is more common among adolescent girls. The main reason is that during puberty, the ovarian function is not yet fully mature, and part of the menstruation at this time is anovulatory. Without ovulation, there is no corpus luteum, and without a corpus luteum, there is a lack of progesterone.

Therefore, the endometrium can only be in the proliferative phase and cannot reach the complete secretory phase, resulting in incomplete shedding of the endometrium, which affects the contraction of the uterus and causes excessive menstrual bleeding. If this situation is not paid attention to, over time, symptoms of anemia such as pale complexion, fatigue, and dizziness may appear, and medical treatment should be sought.

4. Menstrual blood color

Normal blood is dark red and is mixed with small fragments of shed endometrium, cervical mucus, and vaginal epithelial cells, but without blood clots. If the menstrual blood is as thin as water, only slightly pink, or black or purple, it is abnormal. If the menstrual blood is completely blood clots, it is also abnormal and there may be other bleeding sites. You should seek medical attention as soon as possible to ensure your health.
