Cinnamon is the bark of the cinnamon tree, a famous spice. The best cinnamon has fine skin and thick flesh, is black or brown in color, purple-red in cross section, is oily, and tastes delicious.

Cinnamon is mostly produced in Pingnan, Rongxian, Fangchenggang and other counties and cities in central, southern and southeastern Guangxi. Among them, Pingnan cinnamon has the best quality and is called "Chen Gui".

Cinnamon bark is also an important Chinese medicine, and has been as famous as ginseng and deer antler in the north since ancient times. Guangxi cinnamon was exported to Europe more than 900 years ago, and now cinnamon has become an important export commodity of Guangxi. Cinnamon is called "Western cinnamon" abroad.

Medicinal uses of cinnamon:

Pakistani researchers recently discovered that cinnamon can help improve blood sugar and blood lipid levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. The researchers randomly divided patients with type 2 diabetes into six groups and gave them 1, 3, or 6 grams of cinnamon powder capsules or a placebo without cinnamon every day for 40 consecutive days. The results showed that the three groups of patients taking different doses of cinnamon had their fasting blood sugar reduced by 18% to 29%, total cholesterol reduced by 12% to 26%, triglycerides reduced by 23% to 30%, and "bad" cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein, reduced by 7% to 27%; while the three groups of patients taking the placebo had no changes in blood sugar and blood lipids.

Dr. Anderson of the U.S. Department of Agriculture also found that cinnamon, cloves, turmeric and a kind of grass can increase insulin activity by 3 times, helping the body to better utilize sugars, and cinnamon is the most effective.

Test-tube studies have also shown that cinnamon can greatly enhance the effectiveness of insulin in metabolizing glucose.

Experts believe that sprinkling a teaspoon of cinnamon powder on bread or adding it to cereal porridge and cooked food every day can help prevent and treat diabetes.

I believe you should know what cinnamon is after reading this article. Cinnamon actually comes from a kind of tree bark, but its medicinal value is very high. It can improve the blood sugar and blood lipid levels of diabetic patients, has a good auxiliary effect on the body's better absorption of sugars, and can also increase the secretion of insulin.
