Classification of urinary incontinence

Classification of urinary incontinence

Urinary incontinence is a disease of our human urinary system, and the incidence of this type of urinary incontinence in the population is quite high. There are many types of urinary incontinence, but not everyone is aware of them. So, what are the classifications of urinary incontinence? Generally, only some professionals know this question clearly. Of course, if ordinary people understand the classification of urinary incontinence, it will be beneficial to the treatment of patients with urinary incontinence to some extent.

Urinary incontinence actually refers to the fact that urine is naturally left behind without control when the human body urinates. Generally, patients with urinary incontinence rarely go out because they are afraid of exposing their disease in front of others, which they think is a very "shameful" thing. So, let’s introduce the classification of urinary incontinence in detail.

Urinary incontinence is the involuntary loss of urine due to bladder sphincter damage or nerve dysfunction. Urinary incontinence can be divided into five categories according to symptoms: overflow incontinence, non-resistance incontinence, reflex incontinence, urge incontinence and stress incontinence.

Overflow incontinence: Overflow incontinence is caused by urinary retention due to severe mechanical (such as prostatic hyperplasia) or functional obstruction of the lower urinary tract. When the intra-bladder pressure rises to a certain level and exceeds the urethral resistance, urine continuously drips out of the urethra. The bladder of these patients is in a distended state.

Non-resistance urinary incontinence: Non-resistance urinary incontinence is due to the complete loss of urethral resistance, the bladder cannot store urine, and all the urine flows out of the urethra when the patient stands.

Reflex incontinence: Reflex incontinence is caused by a complete upper motor neuron lesion. Urinating depends on spinal reflex. The patient urinates intermittently (intermittent incontinence) involuntarily and has no feeling of urination.

Urge urinary incontinence: Urge urinary incontinence can be caused by strong local stimulation such as partial upper motor neuron disease or acute cystitis. Patients have very serious symptoms of frequent urination and urgency. Urinary incontinence occurs due to strong, uninhibited contractions of the detrusor muscle.

Stress urinary incontinence: Stress urinary incontinence is the leakage of urine from the urethra when abdominal pressure increases (such as when coughing, sneezing, climbing stairs or running). .

With the detailed introduction in the above article, everyone will know the specific classification of urinary incontinence. Knowing the specific classification of urinary incontinence will be of certain benefit for the future treatment of patients with urinary incontinence. At least when patients with urinary incontinence suffer from the disease, they can find the symptoms and receive correct treatment, which will promote the recovery of patients with urinary incontinence.
